The Last Movie You Watched?

Captain Marvel . . . I enjoyed it. A fair number of things in the film set up nicely for Avengers: Endgame to be a finale of sorts, tying up all of the characters brought forth in the MCU to date into a nice neat package. I think that, once I have seen it (Endgame), I will likely stop watching the newer MCU films in theatres, as this point in the canon is roughly where I stopped my comic book collecting as well.

I also left the theatre thinking two thoughts . . .

Wonder Woman is clearly the best non-Batman movie in the DC stable, and . . .
Captain Marvel is a far more "empowering" character (if that matters to people).

Fury

It's a war movie which I suspect quite accurately portrays the aspects of war with which it dealt. In other words it's violent and not for anyone who likes the sanitized version. I am not sure that it's actually based on historical events, but I think it could be.

The movie is strong on action, plot, and characters (for a war movie). The story is entirely about a tank crew placed by circumstances into a situation where they have a couple of options one of which is to do their duty as soldiers.

The lead actor is much older than he appears to be in the movie which amazed me when I read his age.

This is not a movie I would watch with children nor is it a movie my wife would sit through. I believe the movie was well done, and I might watch it again sometime. Is it the best movie ever made? Hardly, but it's pretty good, I'd say quite good, for what it is.

It's definitely a "war is hell" movie, but it still manages to find within the situation a measure of goodness, humanity, decency, character, and even spirituality; negative reviews of the movie are written by Disney fans who like a Unicorns and Butterflies fantasy world. Their criticisms imply pornographic violence. You may agree. I don't.

Happy shaves,

Jim

Fury is not based on any war time mission or battle. I do not even think the screenplay was derived from a book. Decent enough film, though.

Wasted and watching a 2000 dvd called "The Shane MacGowan Story: If I Should Fall From Grace". After more than 20 years of listening to The Pogues, my wife and I finally got to see Shane & The Pogues live in 2006.They don't make bands like this anymore.

Fury is a good movie. I really liked it too Jim. Theres another one called The Beast, about the Russian war in Afghanistan. Its good too.

The Beast of War (1988) - IMDb

Not on Netflix . . . but it looks GREAT.

Its on the new Paramount Network so it might be difficult to find, but as always, downloads are available. I think its the best series out right now. Its a lot better than the trailers show. Dark and gritty with great depth to all the characters. I've seen no flaws through season 1.

I thought Woody was very good but I've never been a fan of Costner's stoic tough guy. Comes across to me as just cardboard.

Have you seen this movie?

Open Range (2003) - IMDb

I know what you mean about his tough guy persona feeling forced, but he comes across pretty convincing in that movie and even more so in Yellowstone.

@Esox I don't think I have. I will, Robert Duvall is one of my favorites. I think costner has done some good work, Dances with Wolves, Field of Dreams, but a lot of recent stuff seems a caricature of himself.

Last night, my wife and I rewatched a dvd called "The Last of the Blonde Bombshells". I believe it was a 2000 UK TV movie, in which Judi Dench attempts to reunite her all-girl, swing band from WW2. A very enjoyable movie with some great swing music interspersed along the way.
