The Journal Of Huck...

So now for a brief Smart-Helix update. There's been some activity with the .50 caliber DE handles on the website so that's good. All to help during this difficult time. The folks at S-H are holding together as best they can. What an absolute travesty of justice and humanity this conflict is and will be for some time. Do what you're able to.
Thanx and everyone stay safe.

As far as shaving, I've ordered an R41, mainly due to @LRod and his reviews. I find his comments on razor performance tend to be in line with what I have experienced. Plus all the other reviews on the razor helped as well...we shall see. I'm going to pair the head with the Muhle Rytmo black resin handle so I'll have two razors at the end of the day.
I will review the shaves when they land
Thanx Guys

I hope for the sake of humanity, that the conflict gets resolved at some point!
Also, I would love a Helix. I've been on the list since when the conflict started
and was never able to get one.

By the way, I just got a response from Focus in Italy. They gave me some weird response that the product would be consumed in Italy and I'm not an importer, etc., etc.. So I'd have to pay the tax! I don't have to pay VAT when getting something delivered from the EU but whatever! Moving on..

Yeah, not sure what they're talking about...

Ok, so back in 2019, my wife and I, my brother and his wife plus my other brother took a trip to Field BC to do some hiking, photography and bonding. Now we were originally going to do Lake Louise (Banff) Alberta but the tourists were insane as to numbers. We couldn't even get to the lake to see it. The park had to construct temporary parking lots for the vehicles where you had to go, park and wait for shuttle buses to take you to the lake. It was crazy. I had lived in Calgary all my life and could go to that lake anytime I wanted to. What an eye opener.
So we rented a place in Field and based our operations out of there. Field is in YoHo National Park and is a nice little town with a few things to do and a couple of good restaurants.
So we started our hiking etc around Emerald Lake which is very pretty and full of tourists as well, just not as bad as Lk. Louise. Thankfully. Got some nice photos and had very nice weather.
We took a side trip, the Missus and I, to Golden BC. Nice town, bigger than Field by quite a bit, walked around did lunch and headed back.
Explored Field the next day and found they had a very quaint little cemetery that ranged from the late 1800s to fairly recent. Explored the old railroad station (closed) and took more pics.
Nice trip all in all and it was good to see the bros again.
You can also see in the one pic my brother and the wee small rodent who is expecting something for his/her cuteness. Nope, nothing, at which point the critter turned to more rewarding tourists.
Cheers and have a great day.

My brain can't even process those flow rates, I think I would have to go to my usual spots(High Sierra) in May to see anything close to that! Northern BC has quite some mining history, one could easily stumble onto an adit, so I have heard...
Actually there's old/abandoned and operating mines all over BC. There are approx 1887 historic mine sites in BC.
  • "Many sites are difficult or impossible to access due to their remoteness. This is compounded by the fact that road or trail access to historic sites no longer exists due to vegetative growth. These sites must be accessed via helicopter".

Not made for these times.

More great pics, sir. :thumbup1:

Well, the R41 arrived yesterday and I have to admit, for me, it's a pretty plain looking razor...reputation not withstanding. So what I did was to get a Muhle Rytmo SB Razor as well. I swapped the handles so the R41 now has a good looking handle. The other razor is currently boxed up in the drawer. I may drag it out to see how it shaves as well. I loaded a Nacet that had some shaves on it just to err on the side of caution. So I built my lather using Henri et Victoria soft soap awith an AP synth brush and lathered up. I noticed the Nacet was dragging a bit so I changed to a Perma-Sharp that had a couple of shaves less on it. That seemed to cure the drag issue. Nice shave, pretty intuitive and the new handle worked well. It is very efficient and gave me a nice two pass with some buffing shave. I will be using a new blade for the next shave now that I have some feeling for this razor. A couple of small weepers that the alum bar took immediate care of so nothing dramatic. I chalk that up to perhaps the blade having some shaves on it and a bit of a learning curve for me. Topped off with Bulgary "Man" black cologne.
I would actually say the Flexi OC on 6 is a bit more aggressive than the R41.
All in all a very nice smooth shave, I will shave in a couple of days to allow the beard to give the razor something to work with. A much better razor from the original which tended to leave me in shreds.
Cheers.
