The Importance of Checking your Gear before Going on a Trip

Well I did not apparently. I went to France for four days. I was late in packing and in the small hours I tossed in a Injector (I2) I had not been using for some time. I was dead sure it was loaded with a fairly new blade. First shave convinced me it was not. And I had no back up blades for it either.
The thing with injector blades is that they just quietly die. With DE blades you are bound to have a harsh time with a dull blade. Injector blades just..fade away. I have had my worst shaving results since I started this "shaving business" 6 years back. I was amazed how this annoyed me. I was feeling unclean for the whole trip. Uneven stubbles that just grow weird after a half a day (I have heavy growth of beard). Even my wife teased me about it. And I could not find any injector blades either- when casually checking the pharmacies.
Of course I refused the temptation to buy cheap BICs so I guess that makes me a martyr eh..?
It´s like in the military- always check your gear before going out in the fields.

...Lesson from someone that learned it the uh.. "hard" way...

Once again, it speaks to having a full second set of gear pre-packed just for travel. It also speaks the ridiculously high standards we've all become accustomed to ;)

Just crossed my mind- usually I just have my Merkur 34C in my travel case. In case it if it gets lost- much ado about nothing really- it´s far from one of my favourites- and if it get´s lost- no harm done (when it comes to the razor mind you!). I always hesitate to put down a precious (and GOOD) razor when checking in my bags.
I got a doublet of the Fatboy so there is my choice of razor the next time. I guess.
Why is it so hard to compromise when you are out travelling..? Sigh..

...The horror, the horror...

If you really like your razor, get two :) I do the same with my 3 years old's stuffed toys in case they get lost ;) And you can always pack the blades and the rest of your gear but keep your unloaded razor with you when travelling.

Well, having two razors checked in this time of travelling would have been of lesser help for the poorly shaved OP on this very occasion. Besides- lesson learned as I stated in the previous post. :closedeye
One of the FBs is coming with me the next time.

Being somewhat I geezer- I came home at around AM 2 and was DEAD tired. Knowing I was up for an early morning for work- I decided to lather up with a GOOD brush and a SHARP blade straight away.
I slept good that night. Patting my chin to sleep...

I didn't mean to check two, I just meant to have an extra for travelling. In case your travel razor gets lost in luggage handling you still have your primary safe at home. Still spoils the shave while you're away thought :(
