What's new

The high and low of mail order

It's been a while since I was here. The browser I am stuck with was making me log in on every page load, and kept forgetting which posts I've read. But, that seems to be working now and I am back. And it is great to be back!

In a spring kind of mood, no doubt influenced by the yearly economic simulus we call tax returns, I felt the desire to do something I've wanted to do for a long time. My Superspeed has really become a sore spot in my shave den. I ordered a new razor to replace it. And as long as I was mail ordering, I decided I'll finally try Lilac Vegetal.

So I wait with anticipation. I spend 5 days waiting to try out the new razor and find out what the Veg is like.

Today it shows up. I take the Merkur 15C out of it's packaging and admire it's quality. I note the perfect alignment, and then... Apparently, I bought the wrong razor. I can tell by looking at it that it's not going to work at all. It's far too mild for me.

Then, I try out the Veg. I tolerate the smell which is the perfect combination of the worst smelling wild vegetation I have experienced plus this: $$T2eC16h,!ysE9sy0kzTYBQNRjcR9)Q~~60_35.JPG.

I've heard that it smells bad going on and gets better. Well, it doesn't, I think. Or maybe it's just that my nostrils have been permanently damaged so I couldn't tell. I showered with Acqua Di Gio four hours later and now eight hours after that my nostrils are still in pain. I cannot get that foul smell out of me.

So, maybe I'll try the 15C the way it is and see what happens. After all, it's my first open comb. Or maybe I can piece it together with my Frankenrazor and end up with a really super-aggressive open comb. If not, there are always shims.

And, I may try the Veg again...

It's entirely possible. It's also possible that I have a head cold and maybe I can't smell properly. It occurs to me I do have cold symptoms.

I have really been wanting to try the Veg, but this description may be the one that finally drives me away for good!

If you still have a head cold after using the VEG, you're doing it wrong.
I must be doing it wrong...

Or, the Veg gave me the head cold!

Either way, something happened today:
Maybe it's the vernal equinox.
Maybe the Veg permanently destroyed my sense of smell.
Maybe the Lilac and Lavender shaving soap reacted with the Veg.
Maybe the world ended this morning.

I woke up this morning with (no, the sundown was NOT shining in) that horrid over-ripe noxious-weed smell still in my hands; after washing many times the night before with some very strong soaps.

I was anxious to shave with the new 15C. It worked amazingly well removing 3 months worth of chest-hair the night before, but now to try it on my face and neck. I realised quickly that I had gotten lazy with my technique: The open-comb will not allow me to do an ATG pass immediately after one WTG pass.

I had to be more careful than ever: I recalled the concept of "negative pressure" and had the most invigorating shave I've had in years! Apparently the mildest open-comb is more aggressive than the most aggressive safety-bar.

Feeling like I'd accomplished the world, I decided that the Veg will not kill me; but if it does, then I proved something anyway. So, I splashed some on and immediately liked the scent! I put it all over my face and it burned my forehead. (I did not shave my forehead.)

I took my shower and was feeling absolutely on top of the world. Having read the back of the Lilac Vegetal bottle (and previously thinking it was insane) I applied it to my whole body!

My whole day so far has been as if I had just single-handedly won a war! In every situation I'd been involved in at work, I took command away from whoever was supposed to have it, got the job done, and astonished many people.

I don't whether if it's the weather (it's 15F and windy), whether it was the shave, whether it was the Veg, any combination thereof, or if I've just fallen off my rocker. But, I can't wait to try it again! My only hope is that this is not the best day of my life.

It's the VEG. Every good thing in life... is the VEG. Sounds like you've been chosen. Good for you. :thumbup1:

Maybe not so for everyone else. But good for you!

This blasted cold keeps getting worse. It could be days until I find out what's going on. I was really looking forward to the 15C and the Veg for a second round but I just couldn't shave today.:bored:
