What's new

The harder they fall

In the last 3+ years I must say I have seen a few fall deep into the FPAD.

Isaacrn was the first who fell....not too hard but was on a tear for awhile.

Jakespoppy was next

Mr. Scruffy succumbed as well as Iluvmysuper.

But Beginish, Mendel and Syngent have the worst cases of FPAD I have ever seen and the quickest

WELL DONE gentlemen !!!!!

Blewbyou definitely gets a nod as well

I was prepared to point and laugh... :( brb I need to go to the bathroom mirror

That's funny right there, I don't care who ya are!

Brian is an amazing enabler.
I've got a desk drawer full of pens. Some I've bought new, some I've repaired, some I have yet to work on, and some I just gaze at like Gollum at his precious.
Thanks Brian, I wouldn't give it up for all the Heros in China.

I think there should be different types of FPAD. For example, there are people who talk about things and dabble, a little bit, then there are people who buy enough stuff to fill a storage unit.

I think Syngent falls into the enabler category. He is passionate about pens and things that go with them, but I don't see a truck load of stuff ( unless he's hiding something :sneaky2: ) He just likes to help *cough* enable *cough* people out.

brianw; from what I hear, you have enough pens to block the sun if need be.

Either way i'm loving this here fountain pen thing.

It seems like every couple of years I go into acquisition frenzy mode. I don't know what it is about fountain pens, but I can't stop finding ones I want to try or own. It's the only thing in my life that has this persistent grip on me. There are much worse things out there to spend time and money on, though.

Well maybe not that many.....but I am not allowed to put them all in one place, (along with the ink) lest Jersey tilts and slides into the Atlantic

I just have a "if I'm going down, I'm taking you with me" attitude

And I survived brushes... and creams, aftershaves and straights stones and the like.... I avoided the brown leaf for a long time knowing full well what would happen... I enabled myself there, but Rockviper led me in here then the hooks were set.

But I can say I still don't own a parker 51.... I lost that auction (s)

I got moves like Jagger
Until a few months ago (June?), I don't know if syngent ever even held a fountain pen before, let alone owned several >$100 ones.
Yup, he fell hard.

I have FPAD about as badly as my wallet allows. I'm waiting to get my tax return... I smell either a "51" or something in the $100 - $150 price range & some new ink and paper coming my way. Oh, and possibly a wax seal & wax... and the $100 or so of stuff in my wish list on goulet.

While I wish I could make the meet-up, my wallet is very glad I can't.

Honestly, I think it is pretty interesting how so many of us (including myself) have gone from having no idea about a fountain pen to wanting any pen we can find, and willingly dropping big money into some of these pens.
So, what is it, really? Besides the great enablers here on Badger and Blade, what drew everyone so deep into these pens? I still remember asking about what pen I should buy for my first. And wondering if it was crazy to spend the $25 on a Lamy Safari. I look at where I am now and can't believe it!

Something along the same lines as driving old cars... using vintage and antique razors, and the other interests we share, think we all have our own reasons but the results sure seem to be similar

Personally I just think they're neat and fun and make the ordinary special
