The Great Toothpaste Thread!

It has been a while since we had a good toothpaste thread here. For some reason I have been looking at the Marvis toothpastes... Have a favorite? Anything exotic or interesting?

Ive used Marvis in the past, but we stopped buying it since we go though it like crazy. Read: AKA too expensive to use all the time.
I enjoyed pretty much all their flavors. I also like many of the Toms of Maine toothpastes.

I'm currently using Trader Joe's Anti-Plaque Toothpaste, containing Fennel, Propolis and Myrrh ... I'm on my third or fourth tube, which is unusual for me to be using the same product for so long.

C&E used to carry an excellent liquid tooth cleaner that was all herbal ... you would just put a few drops on a wet toothbrush and go at it. I've been looking for this stuff for the last 25 years or so, but C&E no longer carries, and nobody else has anything even remotely close.

I'm a bit picky when it comes to toothpaste. It can't feel gritty or abrasive and it's gotta foam up a lot. I love that "whole mouth clean" feeling. So lately I've been using the Aquafresh Extreme Clean stuff.

Sometimes I'm curious about other "classic" brands though.

When it comes to looking after your teeth shouldn't you get the product that works best? Which dentist will recommend some unknown brand instead of the more popular ones like Colgate and Aquafresh etc.

Anyway, my rant is over  . My fav toothpaste is Coltege Oxygen, too bad it isn't well distributed any more.

Well, AFAIK, as long as a toothpaste has fluoride dentists are usually okay with it. My dentist always recommended Crest. I hate Crest because it's abrasive and doesn't foam up much at all.

But I guess people search out toothpaste alternatives because they're bored with the usual suspects.

Try a tooth powder.... Ecodent is excellent and is a formulation particularly good for gum health as well as teeth cleaning.

My favorite up to this point has been Rembrandt's Extra Gentle variety, but unfortunately it's just been reformulated and the new formula is crap.

I've been trying lots of different kinds recently looking for a replacement, but it's not going very well. :frown: The thing I liked most about the Rembrandt was how it didn't leave much of an aftertaste or after-feel, just clean teeth. I haven't found any others that feel quite the same yet.

As for the Marvis, it tasted nice but I didn't like it for the reasons mentioned about; it felt like it left some residue in my mouth despite rinsing thoroughly.

I got started using toothpaste for sensitive teeth a couple years ago. The active ingredient is the same across brands, so I usually get Colgate if its the cheapest.

Does it have fluoride? What does it taste like?

I doesn't contain fluoride.

The ingredients list mint and menthol. The taste is pretty much "minty".
It is a not a very sweet toothpaste, like many of the new formulas today. But I prefer it that way.
