What's new

The Golden Nib Knot Softness Grade

In anticipation of my new handle I'm already deciding what knot to put in it. Sad huh, don't have the handle, don't know what size knot or what loft I can set to without too much work :blushing:

I currently have two Finests ( one bulb and one fan ) and a Silvertip. Now I don't like the Silvertip, it's too scritchy and this handle never sees much action ( I really should sell it but I cant bring myself to sell anything shaving related , so maybe another reknot's in order ). I do love my Finests ( set at 45mm loft ) .

I think this handle is kinda special, so rather than end up with 3 Finest knots want to go the next "level".........

As far as I can see in terms of softness Tony's knots go:

1. UK Super
2. Super
3. UK Silvertip
4. Silvertip ( Grade A )
5. Finest
6. Silvertip

I have emailed Tony but would love feedback from the B&B collective who have tried them as well............

The regular silvertip has always felt scratchy to me.

I went to the UK silvertip, or maybe it was a UK super, and it is awesome. Well worth the extra $$$ over plain silvertip.

Ian, I have the finest and the silvertip Grade A...I prefer the Grade A for it's backbone for soaps and super soft tips for face lathering. My finest was used a few times and then gifted to a relative. I have the UK super silvertip heading my way from a really great B&B member...if you wait a few days I'll let you know how it goes :)

Here's Tony's reply :biggrin1:

( Quick service as always)

1. UK super, Super, UK silvertip, silvertip grade A - all about the same, soft not scratchy In a blind test, would be hard to tell them from one another

2. Finest

3. silvertip, Best

if you wait a few days I'll let you know how it goes :)
Brush is probably still 2 weeks away from Canada...so I've got time :001_rolle. Thanks.
