Tried out a sample of TGR Standard cream this morning. Gotta say, I really liked it. It had a faint soapy/clean smell in the container, but once I put it on, it seemed to have a very light citrus smell to it. It was quite slick, felt nice, and lathered well.

Anyone else use this cream? Seems like good stuff.

I have TGR Black Ice and it's one of my favorite creams. It's up there with AoS, T&H, and Trumpers. Definitely a tier 1 cream.

I've tried the unscented and the Black Ice and found them both very good. Unscented is probably better for sensitive skin, but I think Black Ice has a somewhat unique scent. There are not too many anise/licorice-scented creams out there that I am aware of (although I've read here that the new Proraso blue tube has a sweet licorice scent).

Can't say I'm a fan of black licorice or anise scents and flavors, so it's good I skipped that one. But the standard is really nice.

Recently I tried samples of both. I ended up surprised that I liked the Black Ice more, but I did. I liked them both a lot, though. A really great shaving experience, with one or two (depending how you count) downsides.

I expected to need less than I needed -- compared to other creams I've used, it took more to get the brush loaded to "3 passes worth". And the tubs ain't cheap. So there's a downside.

Check out The Shave Den for a matching anise AS splash. The scent is slightly sweeter (vanilla), but you can get it with menthol and it works very well.

The tubs may be a little more expensive than other soaps, but they're not that bad. I've seen some that are $20-$30 or more, which is a bit ridiculous to me. And if you think about how long these hard soaps last, the price really isn't that bad. Especially if it's a really good product.

This morning I shaved with TGR Standard 2 cream, it was excellent!
Lathered in hot water amazingly.
Great lavender-citrus-sandalwood scent that lasted entire shave, at least for me.
I think a key is keeping it warm and well-hydrated.
Left the face with nice, soft feeling.
Pricey, but worthwhile, IMO.
