The Ever Ready SE: One Nice Razor

One of the disadvantages of having a number of razors in your rotation is that there are times you forget how nice one could be. This week I picked this Ever Ready 1924 to shave with.

I had not shaved with this razor in several months. To me, it doesn't look as sexy as the Streamline. But, man what a shave. So far this is my third shave with the razor using a PTFE SE blade. It is probably one of best shaves in term of being close and smooth.

Anyone have a gem that you just forget about - until you use it again?

That is my main razor. I actually have three. An old one that is super aggressive, not sure why, one with a thick collar under the head where the handle screws in, and one like yours.

I bought a lot of 3: one 1912 and two shovle heads. Not the nicest specimen but hopfully they will clean up. I tossed the in a jar with alcohol where they are marinading until i get home. Can't wait to clean them (less on that) and take them for a ride.

I sold a number of SE razors lately but I did retain some that I enjoy using and one is the 1924

Kept:

1912 cased British made Ever Ready
1924 cased travel Ever Ready
Flying Wing

I am happy with these and rarely think of the ones I sold (G-bar, MMOC, Damaskeene, Streamline, 1912, or the push button)

Those 3 SE razors that I did keep are enough for me as each one will give me a perfect shave every time I pick it up

I just used my 1924 Every-Ready for the first time tonight. I love this little razor. I used it with a Gem super stainless blade and I must say I am impressed .One razor I will be using regularly.

I picked up a GEM 1912 and a GEM Junior years ago. I bought GEM SS blades at the drug store. I used each for a week and was not really that impressed. Recently there has much discussion about GEM SS coated blades on the forums available from vendors in bulk for short money. I decided to give these razors another try with coated blades. All I can say is a night and day experience. For me SS coated blades are much smoother, sharper and longer lasting.

Both razors shave very well with minimum irritation. The 1912 is aggressive and edgy. The Junior is more tame but still close shaving. I have used both razors for one shave-1912 for pass one and pass two and the Junior for the final against the grain pass and touch up. Great shave!

The 1912 bunch are great razors. I wish the handle was a little longer though, so I usually end up using a Micromatic.

The Ever Ready 1924 when matched up with a Gem stainless/coated blade is my all time favorite razor...puts my Gem Jewel and ER Streamline in 2nd place. Nothing better for the combination of closeness, smoothness and audible feedback.
