The Elusive Gillette NEW Aristocrat!

Greetings Gentlemen,

I was hoping that someone might be able to shed some light on the NEW Aristocrat that Gillette supposedly made in the 1930's.

I have heard about it but have only seen this picture:

I have never seen an actual picture of this beautiful, elusive razor!!! This picture has Achim's site's watermark yet I don't see a NEW Aristocrat on mr-razor.com.

The wiki only has this picture too, not one of the actual razor.

Is it the same as the NEW President?

Does someone have a picture or this razor or any information?

Those are Sweet, and have nice Heft to them, but are Rare and not easy to obtain, and if you do see one in Auction, be prepared to pay $500.00 Plus, on the Bay /

Those pictures are of the NEW President not the NEW Aristocrat.

Are they the same razor??? Because I have never seen a picture of the NEW Aristocrat I have only seen pictures of the NEW President.

One went for $100 on the bay a few weeks ago, told the seller not to take any offers but he didn't listen.

A contrary view but I think these are a little to busy engraving wise. Don't get me wrong if I saw this I'd buy it but it would be passed on to a member more appreciative of it.

I saw it when it first came up, and looking at the sellers other responses to people, figured he wouldn't take one.

Then saw he ended it and it went for $100. I sent him an email saying I would have bid double that, and probably still lost.

Yup, that's it. The last one that I seen sell uncased about a year ago went for a little over $300

No, i would say that the President may be the similar to the New Improved Cavalier set so i dont see no name change scenario.

Well here are my questions:

1. What is the difference between a NEW President and NEW Aristocrat?

2. Are they the same razor?

3. Where are any ads/literature that lists a razor called the NEW President? In other words, where is the evidence that there was a razor called the NEW President.


This is just something that been confusing to me, because people post pictures of the NEW Aristocrat but use the razor on Achim's site that is listed as a NEW President, and vise-versa.

I'll answer these in reverse order: No, they're not the same. The NEW DeLuxe Aristocrat set had the much deeper, more detailed engraving that the Old Type and New Improved De Luxe Combination Sets had. The President set had the same engine-turned decoration that the New Improved Cavalier set had. The President set would have looked basically exactly like this image of Vargas's (he stuck a loose President into a Cavalier set):

While the decoration on the NEW DeLuxe Aristocrat (the top set in the image that Elmerwood posted above) would have looked like this New Improved De Luxe Combination Set:

3. Where are any ads/literature that lists a razor called the NEW President? In other words, where is the evidence that there was a razor called the NEW President.

I've wondered about this before, too. I haven't yet been able to turn up any direct evidence of the President set in any original print matter from the era. Krumholz shows pictures of both the President and Aristocrat sets in his book, and mentions that the President set included the original shipper, which would certainly have had the set's name on it, but it's not pictured.

Porter that has to be one of the nicest Mismatch Set's Around not because it's Mine Because Ras120 agreed as well ) but i'm sure plenty would agree.

Now i have to find me another Cavalier set for my New Deluxe Combination Razor , as it does need a place to rest )
