The Draw Back of Buying Vintage Razors

There is a major drawback to buying vintage razors. Guess what it is. It's the Post Office. If they should lose your package, the seller can't just re-ship your order. You're basically stuck. I found a nice Canadian Tech on the 'bay for a fair price, and I bought it. It's supposed to be delivered today, but according the tracking it never even made it to the sort facility in Florida to be routed to Wisconsin. The mail will arrive sometime in the next couple of hours and I'll know if it came today or not. But, I have kind of a bad feeling about this. The last time this happened it was with a Spieck stick from WCS, and it really was lost. It never showed up and WCS re-shipped. Alas, if this package is lost, I'm out a Canadian Tech and at the mercy of Ebay's resolution center to get my money refunded.

If it's lost, I'll probably get my money back eventually, but I won't get the Tech I bought. So, if there's a down side to buying vintage razors, this is it.

I used to feel this way when I ordered from Italianbarber.com when they still shipped from Toronto, I never knew what was going to happen when my goods entered into the abyss of USPS/Customs. Now, thankfully, they ship out of Niagara Falls, NY and it arrives in like 2 days.

Good luck!

I feel for you on this for a few reasons

1) I ordered 4 PanaCrema and DHL just sent it to the wrong sorting center
2) I just bought a 1932 Canadian Tech and shaved with it the first time this morning and it was so good I could throw out the other razors I have

Hopefully though the mail was miss sorted and it will show up, Sometimes small stuff takes off in the wrong direction
Keepin my fingers crossed for ya,

You just have to be patient with USPS. I've had packages take as long as two weeks to arrive from a neighboring state. But I've also had packages arrive in 3 days from across the country.

agree with the others, USPS tracking is about useless. items show going places that make NO sense, take longer/shorter than the estimated, or even don't arrive when shown as delivered. as hard up for $$$ as USPS is, get rid of the useless tracking, or make it work, don't just taunt us with the coulda shoulda woulda as they currently do.

Honestly I have never had any major problems with the post office. Everything I have ordered has arrived, sometimes rather slowly, but it got there. My last item, a fountain pen coming from Japan, arrived, but it caused a little trouble on my part. I had to go out of town for three weeks, and put a hold on my mail. The post office failed to put a need to pick up and sign in notice in my mailbox, and tracking from Japan said it was delivered to a PO box which I do not have. When I went to the post office and inquired they quickly found it.

If I was a betting man, I'd put my money on the razor showing up...it might be a few more days, but I think you'll get it.

So far, the Post Office has a pretty good track record. They've never lost a letter, bill, or payment, but they have lost one package so far for me. I've just got this sinking feeling that this one will be package number two lost in the USPS abyss. I do hope I'm wrong however.

I have had hundreds of shaving related thing shipped to/from me and only one has gotten lost - and in that case i think the ebay seller actually didn't ship. It was one of those auctions where I know I got it for much less than they were hoping to sell it for, so it "disappeared" in transit :)

Tracking info is notoriously innaccurate - give it a few days. It will likely arrive :)

I hope your razor shows up. My personal experience with USPS tracking is that it sucks...I've had packages delivered then checked the tracking site only to have them show that it hasn't reached my local post office yet. A few hours later...wala! It's been delivered...

Give them some time. It should arrive. I have had a few items show as "Delivered" which didn't actually show up until a day or two later.

I feel you! I track my packages like a hawk! I can't figure out how I can receive a package from Ireland in 5 days, and it takes 6 from Southern California. Go figure.

Look at the bright side - at least it wasn't something expensive. One time out of 100 something will get lost, it's your luck it didn't fall on something expensive or unique. I wouldn't worry so much over a Tech. Once I've lost in the mail a completely unique historical picture I've bought on EBAY, and I will never be able to replace it. I was so eager to get it too... :(
Recently the mail lost 200 Polsilver Super Iridiums I've ordered from BullGoose, and Phil was generous enough to send me a replacement. It's always nice to know you're dealing with real gentlemen like Phil.

I have a package from USPS arriving in the UK. It says Processed Through Sort Facility but I have no idea what that means. The site gives a vague definition but I've had no updates since the 22nd.

Processed through the sort facility means that it's been sorted and is headed out to the appropriate destination.

Just be glad you are not Canadian. With Canada Post, we get 1/5th of the mail service that USPS provides and pay four times more for it. I would hardly notice if they stopped delivering the mail all together.

I was only once sent something from Canada, and had a very bad experience with them. The package just would not arrive, and I asked the seller to refund me the money. He just wouldn't. I insisted. After some time he agreed, and told me he refunded me, but I did not get the money. Then he just stopped answering my emails. I couldn't do anything. Then, after some five months the package arrived, after I already purchased the items from another shop.
