The Dollar General Shave!

So my bathroom is under attack my Mothers "Friend" Rick is trying to repair my bathroom shower.

So I went to a friends house to shower, didn't bring my shave goods or a toothbrush =/

She lives a good 30 miles from my house, so I set out for Dollar General by her, hey just another excuse to buy shave stuff right!

I picked up my goods, and bought some DG Witch Hazel and Rubbing Alcohol, they had "Evergreen" scented too but I passed on that...

Picked an AV knockoff called Swan Artic BLue, pretty much same scent, less menthol but more alcohol like that in Clubman.

I was surprised I enjoyed the Swan so much, I wore it out to dinner tonight and got me thinking.

I think its time to become a Dollar General Shaver, for $10 I have enough shave supplies *Less Williams* to last a few months plus they carry Barbasol AS!
So I am, The Dollar General Shaver, thrifty, suave and BBS for less than a puck of Tabac

That's one of the nice aspects of this whole thing, it can be tailored to the taste and budget of just about anyone.
You can get very satisfactory results on the dirt cheap and you can pamper yourself with the top of the line stuff, and everywhere in between.
Not just the whole aspect, but each individual component of it.
What a great way to get a great shave, just as you personally design it and want it.

I was in DG yesterday looking for the Barbasol Musk (not for me, for TRADE). I noticed their witch hazel is even cheaper than WMs. I'll be going their for my witch hazel for now on.

Between Family Dollar and Dollar General, you can save some money on supplies. Too bad you can't get better blades from either store.

I believe the DG & FD blades are the same as the WM Personnas, which did not work well for me...too rough.

Or you can pick and choose. I use inexpensive blades, an $8.00 Gillette Super Speed (I own just one razor), $20.00 brush (have used for 7 years).... so I can justify expensive cremes.

I find spending less on creams and soaps means you can try lots of things and if they don't work pif/dump them...... I also like finding little gems tucked away in stores

From this point on, when Sodapopjones pops up in a thread, I'll hear the Kinks "Low Budget" in my head.

As to Mr. Swampfox, hey, it's Dollar General, not a porn shop. You don't have to pretend you are picking stuff up for "a freind". Just take a deep breath, hold your head up, and walk firmly past the plastic stemware straight to the personal care aisle with pride. Hey, you might even spend a minute eyeballing those knock-off colognes, they might smell OK melted in to a glycerin soap!

While I've been known to squeeze a nickel until the buffalo bellows, I think the key here is Strategery. For instance, I love generic witch hazel, because it has what I want at a price I like. The Swan Artic BLue, not so much. For the price difference I'd rather pick up Aqua Velva and maintain a link with a shaving tradition. I will, however, wait 'till the AV is on sale.

I do love a bargain product. I'm addicted to the Barbasol Pacific Rush AS that Sodapopjones sent me, I giggle like Peter Lorre when I pick up a puck VDH Deluxe for under a buck at the post exchange, and a five dollar Fatboy at the antique store makes my whole year.

Don't let cheap put blinders on you. I'd hate to think of my shaving life without Tabac, and had I just gone by initial outlay, I'd have passed by one of the greatest products on the planet.

Sometimes, however, cheap is flat out better. Just look at Ivy Club vs. P&G Old Spice AS. That doesn't stop me from letting the moths out of the wallet to buy some vintage OS product, too.

Actually I don't think that is the case.

While the blade dispenser looks very similiar to the WM Personna's, I would learn more towards the DG and FD blades being Dorcos.

Especially considering that my FD blades indicated they were made in Korea, which is the headquarters of Dorco.

DG was selling dual fit Atra/Trac II blades, which are most certainly made by Dorco.

Anyway, I found the FD blades to be very rough, and not very sharp. YMMV of course.

If the blades are Korean, they are Dorco. I don't sneer at them, but I think you can get better. I'd certainly choose them over ASR Personna clones.

I found that a cork tames the ASR blades a bit.
