"A dollar a pound" tobacco was intended to sound expensive . . . but the Sir Walter tin at .15 for 2 oz. translates to $1.20/lb.
In today’s money, we aren’t far off the mark. I looked at the Sidney P. Ram 1942 catalog and his blends ranged from $1.50 to $3.00 $3.00 would be about $57.00 now.

You are sensible. Good tobaccos all. One of the first things I asked at The Briary here when I went pipe- and tool shopping last week: "Do you have Half & Half? Or Sir Walter Raleigh?" Sadly, he didn't, but the leaf I chose is pretty darn good. Still, I miss my 2 favorites.
