What's new

The best Rolls I've ever seen.

My brother-in-law's partner just sent me the most functional Rolls Razor I've seen yet. There's no crack in the stone, the strop on the inside of the top cover looks serviceable and without cracks, and the handle is there too! Plus, I gave it a few strokes on the stone, figured out again how the handle works (you have to unscrew it apart, then attach it to the head and tighten) and tried a couple of tentative strokes just below my right sideburn. It really felt like a great shaving edge. I'm going to give it a try, but first I'm going to talk to Dave Irving and get his advice. I also think he has a YouTube video on this. Anyway, it doesn't have the box and I don't know which model it is, but it's the first one that's come across my path that really makes me want to give it a try. I'm guessing it's because it's also not as shiny as some, but looks like it was owned for years by some guy who took good care of it from a usability standpoint, without worrying about how pretty it looked. I'll post my results as this journey continues.

That sounds really great. I saw a few at an antique store and my curiosity has been piqued since that time. While the blade attached to the handle looked downright scary, the idea of being able to sharpen the same blade seemed really interesting. I'll be curious to hear how it goes for you. Keep us updated and best of luck as you try it out.

I have 1 in similar condition, and one that is still in the original cardboard box, complete with instructions. They take a little getting used to. But they are a great shave once you get the technique right. :)

1 of mine is "as yet" un opened, ended up buying another because i did not want to open it:blushing:

Note that you need only loosen the handle a little and slip it onto the blade from one end, then tighten.

There are at least a couple of regular users of Rolls razors on the forum who may respond soon with advice.

I just found this site, WOW. I have my father's Rolls, he gave me my first shave with it. I have since gotten two more and have some rouge. But a source of blades is not yet found. There was an older fellow in the mid-west that bought all the old Rolls stocks(?) but I think he's gone and his wife (?).

Welcome to B&B..Much success finding the blades....

Lots of great info on the Wiki on the Rolls Razor. Neat little system. I passed one up at a rummage sale awhile back for $20 that looked to be in good condition. Wishing now I'd picked it up.

I saw one at a flea market today in excellent condition. The vendor said it had never been used. He is asking $50 Canadian. If anyone is interested I can get you his phone # (no email).

He also had some nice smallish pocket watches ranging from about $150 to $250 (Canadian)
