What is your choice for the best City to be a DE, SE or Straight razor shaver in? and why?

I think some important factors in deciding are; shopping choices, variety and cost of products, water quality, access to old time barbers or spa's, antique stores/flea markets and population of shaving community.

I'm voting for Chicago, so please count my vote 25 times or I'll break your bleepin' thumbs.

Either London or New York... both places are unique in that they have tiny niche shops that can thrive due to the large population and opportunity to sell obscure products and still have a market. Maybe London moreso since so many companies are based there or nearby.

I would think a city in Germany, although not on the list, would be good too. Since it seems those of use from there have access to a lot of products, including the fact that so many razors are made there, too.

How about none of the above? I'm not in any of those cities so I'll vote Manistique since that's where I'm at, well not actually in town but that's the nearest post office. :001_smile

London must be the center of the shaving universe, based on the number of TOBS, Creed, Penhaligon's, etc. etc. that I've paid postage for!

I believe the internet is the great equalizer for those of us in new shave goods related hell.

My city of Edmonton does however provide me with all sorts of vintage razors each week for an average price of 6$.

Also we are having a B&B members meeting under the name "Edmonton Wet Shave and Dinner Society" at the end of April!

Another plus is we have four really distinct seasons which means different shave products for Hot/Humid, Wet/Warm, Cool/Dry and Stinkass cold/Dryer than insert something really dry here. The SWMBO can totally understand the need for different soaps, Aftershave etc...."Honey the blades I ordered are specially coated to work better in the humidity" :001_tt2:

I am surrounded by easy going, polite, simple prairie folks out here in the colonies who don't drive poorly, litter, smoke cheap cigs in public doorways, spit on the sidewalks or act rude and impatient...nope none of that. Its all "Howdy Ma'am" and "Thank you Sir" for us. All manners and decorum and wet shaves down by the crick performed for free by beautiful maidens wearing culottes.

Rather Idyllic don't you think?

That Gentlemen is why I ask you to vote for Edmonton, Alberta Canada as your Shaving Capital of the free universe.

*The above was paid for by the EWSDS. All statements have been verified true and accurate by EWSDS (Except maybe the spitting on the sidewalk part sometimes you just have too!)

No fair New York. We have pictures too ya know! See just like New York minus a few million people and endless things to do...well did I mention the Maidens giving shaves by the crick?

Some great points....London is likely the shave capital (I have no knowledge other than a lot comes from there though) - but as for the NYC vs Austin vs Chi-town debate - I'll certainly seem like a Homer - but I'll go with NY followed by Austin followed by Chitown - great shops in all - Austin has some innovators - Chicago has some classics - but NY has the old style shops/chemists combined with old school barber shops - and someone brought up a great point....NYC has some of the best water in the country. It really is THAT good. mmmmm now I'm off to H and H bagels.
