The Beehive

The Beehive is my favorite shape of all time. I am a face latherer and I consider the shape to be ergonomic, and aesthetically pleasing. I have two of them - one Morris & Forndran, and one Rudy Vey. I received my RV in August, and my M&F yesterday. I was very excited to receive both of them and they are two of my favorite brushes in my collection. The RV is a TGN Finest knot, 25.6x49mm bulb. The M&F contains Lee's famous Blonde Badger, at 24.5x51mm fan. Here are some pics for your enjoyment.

I have an RV beehive on my to do list :wink2:.
Which of the handles do you like better the RV or the MF?
Just from the pic I'd say the RV has more of a hand made personal character to it (which I prefer) and the MF is machine shaped perfect. Obviously the knots are pretty different in shape, how's the performance and feel on the skin ?

I'm a fan of the beehive shape as well. I merged two brushes (Vie-Long and Frank's finest) to achieve this face lathering monster.

I like it so much I bought another used Vie-Long to do a similar transformation. I still haven't decided which knot to put in the new project though.

Wow that's a difficult question to answer. Without getting out my caliper, I can say that these handles are very close with slight differences. The bulbous section on the M&F is a little bit wider than the RV. The bottom ring on the RV is a little bit longer. The workmanship on both handles is very precise. As for the knots, I would say that they both have different face feel based on the whole fan vs. bulb thing that is going on. Both are very soft with a good amount of scrub. The RV feels like it has more concentrated scrub, while the M&F covers a little bit more area.

That looks awesome Dave! Have you considered a TGN Finest?

First, thank you! I am a fan of TGN Finest, for sure, but already have a few in my collection. I was considering his Super 2-band knot as a possibility though.

Beautiful brushes! Ever since I found out beehive handles exist (2months ago) I have been obsessed with getting one. I even designed a custom handle for when I commission one! I'm torn on which badger knot to get as I only have boar brushes at the moment. I also can't decide on the handle color. Moonjava is calling my name though......

I've held the Vie-Long Beehive and found it to be very ergonomic, but have never lathered with one....yet.

Love the looks of these, not so much the Simpson, even if that is the original one. The Rooney and M&F's do it for me, they are the perfect Beehive shape.

Very nice pair of brushes.

Piyush I love that red coral M&F! Thank you for all the positive comments and I would enjoy seeing more of your Beehives!!!
