INFO! The 2022 Gold Dollar Mod Competition

So...I couldn't help myself, and bought a Gold Dollar 66...it arrived today.

They certainly have a cheap and cheerful feel to them...the scales are awful, and the grind is rough.

If I can make something from it before the end of the comp, I'll jump in...

Great! Love to see what you'll come up with.

Depends on how much time I can dedicate before July 1...will be tight!

Pulled it apart, have reprofiled the nose and the heel, ground off the awful jimping, smoothed the tang and tail, taken out almost all of the stabiliser, and ground the faces of the tang flat, removing the Gold Dollar China stamping.
Also thinned the spine a bit, should come out around 17-17.5 degrees now instead of over 18.

Now it's hand sanding in the grind to even out the wavy grind and bring it up to a nice finish.

Hoping it turns out OK, as it is the first razor I've modded...

Just a reminder everyone, you have just under two weeks to finish your Gold Dollar modified razor. On July 1 we open a thread to display the finished results. You then have a week to display your creations. After that we'll post a poll and the B&B populace will vote to pick a winner.

Grind on!

Had a minor disaster...dropped it on a tile floor and of course it landed on the point...

Nothing to do but make a shorty...

Got the blade finished now though...just need to make some scales.

Would have been much easier with access to a belt grinder and a proper buffer... there are many hours of hand sanding in there, before buffing with a dremel and autosol.

Oh no! Sorry about the accident. I must say you have recovered from disaster in style! It will be a good razor when you are done.
