I don't like alcohol based aftershaves (stinging/burning), so I tried Thayer's as an alcohol free option. I find the Cucumber to be very refreshing; it is a staple in my bathroom and sits right next to my Spieck aftershave balm (my 2 favorites). I also recently saw (and bought) Thayer's Coconut, which has a nice refreshing light coconut scent. I am definitely a Thayer's fan. In fairness, I have never tried generic witch hazel, but I much prefer moisturizing aftershave balms to anything astringent.
