What's new

That's it - I'm done with AD

I've marveled at how so many others here have amassed enormous numbers of razors, blades, brushes, soaps, etc. Then I came to see that I am, too!

That's when I realized:

  • I already have the most comfortable razor I or anyone else could possibly want; I don't need a slicker or newer looking specimen with which to shave.

  • I have already located the most spectacular soap I can find; I don't need to continue looking for anything more perfect.

  • I already have a great fan-shaped brush with the stiffness I was looking for; I don't need to covet all the others that are offered up to tempt me.

  • I already have the blade that comfortably slices through my beard like nobody's business; I don't need to explore the other offerings that are out there.

  • I have already found the astringent that's perfect for me; I don't need to keep buying more to find an improvement.

  • I already have the cologne that causes my wife to draw me closer to smell; I need to quit while I'm ahead. :w00t:
So with this post, I'm done. I've still got some inbound packages already en route, but the AD spending is over. When I get to the bottom of the supplies I already have, I'll just buy what I need to refresh them and nothing more.

Anyone care to join me over at the The Penny-Pinchers social group?

Hey Bob, see you're using Krissy's soap, what scent? I got rose and almond. Great stuff, nice lather.

Oh, and the AD thing, you'll find another pet acquisition project I bet.

I was feeling the same way about razors, soaps, creams and colognes. Then some members started reknotting and selling vintage brushes, and now I have 3 of them.

y'know... right now I have a nova case of SBAD; a flaring case of SS/SCAD; and a smoldering case of RAD....

I ain't never told myself I need any of this great stuff... but I sure do like it.

My smellumsAD seems to be quiescent at the moment, thank goodness. (I am still jonesing for a few new Bay Rums, a bottle of C&S Cuba, Pitralon varients... Pinaud Quinine, Pinaud Portugal...) It's not so quiet after all, I guess.

But it sure is fun!

I'll admit, some (lots) of my purchases are AD fueled, but I like having the wide range of choices for my mood. As an added benefit, ever since I started wetshaving my bathroom smells of fine mahogany and leather bound books.

I'm joining you, Bob. I experimented when I first started de shaving. Like you, I know what works for me and I'll keep replenishing my supplies as they run out.

Way to go and congrats :) I feel the way you do, I do not need a bunch of stuff...I just need the right stuff. There is an old saying "if it aint broke, dont fix it". If you have your best shave setup...then no need for anything else. I am happy for you and congrats again. :)

I would join you, but the urge to try new stuff is too great! I want to try all these things...cause as long as I keep a flow of stuff going in and out of my den, I can.

Yes, but variety is the spice of life . . . .

As soon as I find my razor I'm getting my finger off the trigger. Can not seem to find my comfort zone.

That's like saying, "I've never had a food better than this bacon cheeseburger. Therefore, I will only eat bacon cheeseburgers for the rest of my life."

I don't see the point in stopping at our current setup. Variety is what makes this journey fun. I mean, there was a time when I thought I liked Derby blades :D

Plus, acquisition is fun.

I'm using the lime scent right now - wonderful stuff!

Re: the AD thing - I'm generally not into buying a lot of stuff, but the shaving bug hit me a lot harder than usual, in part because the prices are lower than top-of-the-line camera lenses. :wink2:

My smellumsAD was juuuust about to punch into hyper-drive when I decided to shut that puppy down. But that *was* after I ordered some Ogallala Bay Rum Special Reserve and *before* I started this thread. :whistling:

I hear you. I made a similar post not too long ago.. sold off items I wasn't using... then proceeded to purchase 3 sticks of Moos, a stick of Arko off BST, a stick of Speick and a new DB brush scuttle.

Oh yeah, I totally have it under control! :001_tongu:w00t::biggrin:
