Thater 4125/3 Two Band Fan

Loving my Rooney 2XL but am thinking of a larger model. Anyone own a Thater 4125 size 3 two band fan. It looks like it might be similar to the XL series. I know there have been threads on these but I am particularly interested in the shaving qualities of this brush. Thanks!

I just bought a 4125/3 2-band "bulb" and I love it. I wasn't aware that it was available as a fan. I think Thater's overall quality and workmanship matches or surpasses just about any brush you can name. I also have a Rooney 2XL and they are similar, but the Thater has higher loft. Here are a couple of pics of Mr. Rooney and Mr. Thater hanging out together.

Great. I think I am leaning more and more to this brush in fan...Great pics....just have to decide between a 4125/2 or 3!

Nice !

I also have a Rooney Heritage Stubby 2XL on its way to me from the US - will be delivered by a Gentleman member here at B&B in September in Copenhagen

I will definitely have to order a Thater 2-Band also, please tell me what you think of it, especially compared to your Rooney and - if you own - a Simpson Chubby or Duke :biggrin1:

Do you face lather with them or hit the bowl ?

Tell me your thoughts on Fan shape versus bulb shape ?

I used to prefer fan shape for face lathering, but no sure more......just know that if you have a fan shape you go 2-3 mm less and if you have a bulb shape you go 2-3 mm larger.......because of the nature of the pointing bulb compared to the flat fan shape

I think I prefer the feel of a bulb to a fan, which surprises me. And many bulbs bloom so widely that their final shapes are very similar to fans anyway.

I think I prefer the Thater over the Rooney, but just slightly. It retains more water and more heat, which feels nice when I lather. I also think, all other things being equal, that the Thater builds more lather - or at least builds it faster. Scritch is minimal and equal. They are both terrific brushes.

I enjoy both the bulb & the fan but if choosing one it would be the bulb. Thäter's 2-band bulbs are almost a bulb/fan hybrid unlike their 3-band bulbs which have a rather unique shape. They really do make some of the finest brushes available and I find their knots very consistent.
