Some of my favourite soaps (yield best results for me) when I use my straights are B&M and the new Proraso "single edge" line. Also as previously mentioned, if your lather is too dry, the blade will hang up, add more water. Also, you want a very shallow angle, but not so shallow that the spine touches your face. Another thing to try is a bit of a running start. Don't start shaving right where you need to, make sure your the blade is already moving (controlled movement, you want to keep that blade on the outside of your skin) when you encounter the hair.
