What's new

Thanks Grandpa!

I never got to know my grandpa, he died about 3 months after I was born. Not trying to be a Debbie Downer but we've got to know each other via his shave gear.

Just curious what everyone has found within their own family. Finding something in an antique store is fun but finding something a family member has used is so much more special.

Here's what I found, thanks grandpa!

Yeah... those vintage razors from family members bring more meaning 2 one's shave. So... which one is your favorite?

Haven't even cleaned the injectors, can't find blades locally but out of the ones I've tried the Slim hands down. I'm an open comb kind of guy but using a very minty slim, regardless who used it before me is just a real treat.

The Personna 74 blades were a rad find too.

Nice! I was given my grandfathers 3 piece Tech over a year ago after a random conversation with my dad about interest in wet shaving. Given the fact he's always had a full beard it surprises me he kept the razor for ~15 years after my grandfather passed. So, yes, it was a pleasant surprise. I just wish I had it for all those years while I was whacking away at my face with disposables.

Once I decided (after a few months) I was never going back to the canned goop and disposables I unloaded a Fusion, 4 refills, 2 8 pack three blade Schick knockoff disposables, a can of Barbasol and two cans of travel size Gillette foam. So he was happy and I'm happy...win win! I think I got the better end of the deal. :)

Getting your grandfather's razor is very special. Recently asked my aunt if she still have my grandfather's stuff. She didn't think so but said she would look. It would be so meaningful to have that.

Ohhh...I just recalled my grandmother recently gave me a vintage '43 Old Spice mug and some Ever Ready brush she could recall her dad used around the time she was 13. It's pretty much shot though...hairs falling out big time.

Congrats on the irreplaceable family score! Also, that Single Ring looks gorgeous. I'd have trouble even noticing the Slim next to the Single Ring.

Awesome that you were able to find your grandpa's razors. Maybe it's a little sappy, but for me I look at those razors and just think its really cool that multiple generations of a family will get to use the same tool in more or less the same way. The more technology changes the more I think my own grandpa would be bewildered and not really care to see the point of the latest and greatest gadgets if he were still around. But the morning shave ritual with a DE or straight razor? He'd get that and be totally down. good for you that you get to continue the tradition.

I had a similar find recently. Last weekend my mom gave me my grandpa's old straight razor that had just been sitting in a box in the basement. It turned out to be an old wade and butcher for barbers use. I can't wait to clean it up a bit and put it to use.

Very nice. That single ring looks interesting. Is it stripped down to just copper or brass? Or is that just the lighting?

I looks very clean.

I took it down to brass, the gold was nearly totally gone. I have the case and blade holder but they weren't in much better condition.

Quite nice. My first DE was a New so I'm kind of attached to that style head but I havent met an open comb that I didn't like. I wish the handle didn't have the typical hairline crack or I'd consider replating.

When my brother found put I was into straight razors he sent me our grandfather's old straight razor that he had found tucked away in one of our father's old tool boxes. I sent it off to be restored and it now has a special place in my regular rotation. I only met my grandfather once, but the razor gives me such a sense of connection. I hope you enjoy yours as much as I have enjoyed mine!!!

My uncle has given me two of my most prized razors that belonged to my grandfather. One is a slim adjustable and the other is a fatboy. I feel grateful that my uncle gave me these razors. I feel like there is another shared connection between me and my grandfather.

Great score on the family history use and enjoy.
As family heirlooms go I've got three, two by direct linage one by marriage.
I actually have two generations of "family" razors, my Grandfather who I had in my life for my first 24 years and my Great Grandfather who passed several years before my birth.

Pic #2 SWMBO's Grandfather's Gillette NEW, now in a place of reverence as decades of being in a home with 7 kids means it got kind of dinged up and out of alignment making it a rough shaver.
