What's new

Thanks B&B

I'm currently going through the worst week of my life and it won't be getting better for at least a couple of years.

So I really appreciate the escapism this forum brings. It is so great to have a daily hobby and forum that allows me to stay sane and keep a small but integral sliver of normality in my life.

Tonight for instance, I received devastating news. I have to back that up by working another 60 hour week away from my family. So to be able to drop my cheapie boar into a bowl of hot water, sink into the bath with a beer, then lather up with an arko stick and enjoy the simple pleasure of a simple shave was unbelievable.

I remember reading a similar story from a bloke fighting in Iraq. He mentioned the calm and enjoyment he got by finishing his day with a shave and how it centered him in a world of chaos. Now I could never compare my situation to something like that, but I definitely understand that.

So once again, thanks to everyone for all the advice, and providing a nice little escape in a world of chaos. :thumbup1:

The internet has the potential to provide both unlimited information and to be a source for escape, but so does television, and we've all seen how that worked out.

I think you've hit upon the essence of this site. Thanks to our diverse and knowledgeable members, it can be said that, to quote John Derbyshire in his review of Martin Gardner’s Did Adam and Eve Have Navels?,

Nobody has worked harder or more steadily to defend and enlarge this little firelit clearing we hold in the dark chittering forest of unreason.

+1 to what Ouch said.
And the fine quote.

Here's to you Brendan, and hoping for better days soon.

Know that there are people here and elsewhere that may not really know you, but enjoy hearing your thoughts, ideas, experiences...and wish you well. Some of the things real friends do.

Brendan,

I am sorry to hear of your current situation. My best wishes go with you and I trust that things will improve daily.

Glad you find some escape with this hobby, and the website. I hope you gain a sense of peace knowing people from all over are pulling for you.

Take care of yourself during this time. Shaving may be a chore to others, but it is a comfort to you and you are fortunate to know the difference.
