What's new

Thank you P&G and Gillette for the Proglide!

Dear P&G and Gillette,

I recently received your new Proglide Power razor completely free from your company, shipped directly to my house. Your company is very generous to send me such a quality piece of shaving equipment for no cost!

But on to the reason of thanks.

A few months ago I grew weary of paying lots of money to shave my face. I figured out I was spending about $15-$20 a month for this privilege. For $15-$20 a month I could have been paying for my internet service, credit card payment, netflix, a night out to a movie, or any number of productive activities involving myself, my wife, or my kids. But instead of that I was paying for the privilege of a painful, rough, irritation, bump inducing, chore that left my face and neck plotting ways they could kill me.

The final straw that broke the camels back was when I went to buy Mach 3 cartridges at my local Target where I have been buying them for years. I remember paying somewhere around $4.83 for a pack of 5 or 6 waaaaay back when they first came out and now the price I saw on the shelf was over $11.00 for 4. You could hear the camels back snapping two counties over.

The sound of snapping bone was still fresh in my mind as I sat down at my computer and went to www.google.com and started my love affair with DE Shaving.

Several months went by of me perfecting my DE shaving routine, picking out razors, blades, pre/post treatments, aftershaves, balms, brushes, etc. I loved everything about the new experience except the time it was taking me. From start to finish it would take me nearly an hour to shower, prep, shave, and clean-up. Some days this routine is great for relaxing and enjoying the process. Some days you just got to get done quickly and get out the door.

This time issue led me to always leave the cartridge world as a lingering thought in the back of my mind. I held onto a Mach 3 handle and cartridge and kept it in the back of my shave cabinet "just in case".

Then you introduced a new razor! The Proglide..ohhhh.. ahhhh. I found your website where I could sign up to receive a free one. True to your word I had it in my hand in less than six days.

Well last night I finally tried it out. Which finally brings me to why I am thanking you....

Thank you so much for making me realize that DE shaving is really the only way to shave. Your little blue, silver, and black razor has given me the confidence to throw away anything having to do with a cartridge based razor system.

The first pass with this razor actually felt pretty good. I had high hopes that things were going to go well. Everything was smooth and fast. It was pure joy to be able to start at my sideburns and make a single pass all the way down to below my adam's apple without taking the razor from my face (something I miss from DE shaving). My second pass across the grain began to show some of the old cartridge weaknesses. By the third pass which was against the grain I was really having problems. Irritation at the neckline, burn under my chin. It felt like I scrapped several good layers of skin away.

When the shave was finished I was left with pain, burn, and barely acceptable shave. I tried buffing some but it just made matters worse. Here I sit 16 hours later and I can still feel the shave.

So thank you again P&G/Gillette. Without you I wouldn't know how good I have it with my EJ DE89L.

(As a side note I have gotten my shave time down to 20-40 minutes, including pre and clean-up, as I have improved my technique)

That pretty much says it all right there. I think this needs to be a stickie in the Safety razor section.

Hey Gillette...:ciappa:

(I keep looking for a more appropriate smiley, but can't find one.)

That is the most appropriate one!:wink2:

BTW, I concur w/ the OP;although i have not even tried to use a multiblader again-too many years of pseudofolliculitis barbae, razor rash, general discomfort, tweezing my face, using numerous 'bump stoppers' to no avail......

Ha.. I saw the standard P&G offer and for the first time I didn't sign up..

For the first time there was no point!

Thank you Gillette...

I received your razor and was considering using it. While I pondered it, I put it in my pocket and wandered out into the back yard. While in the backyard a very poisonous tree snake coiled and leaped out to bite me with it's poisonous venom. But luckily I had the razor in my pocket of which it couldn't bite through. It did though activate the vibration mode with it's strike.

My first sensation that anything was wrong was the noise from the vibrating razor. When the noise brought my attention, I then saw the deadly snake assassin retreating having missed it's mark.

Thank you again Gillette ! I will tell everyone about the wonderful product you make.

"People, people...don't be rough on us...we have some nice drawers at back office, full of, let's say...junk as SS, Fatboys or Adjustables!! Maybe somebody want to take a look a pick one for free..."

It might just happen... when one of our directors retired after 40+ years and he cleared out his office, a fair amount of correspondence between authors and publisher came to light - they predated his career by some years and if memory serves included handwritten letters from Rudyard Kipling and Thomas Hardy.

Shortly after I started working for the company a box of old bits of wood were sent down to the warehouse for 'archiving'. Just in time to stop them getting trashed, burned or stolen (it was a heavy box so we were still arguing over who'd have to shift it), someone realised they were original woodcuts for Tenniel's 'Alice in Wonderland' illustrations.

Who knows what's lurking somewhere :001_smile

A quality DE shave can be done in 5-7 minutes. 20-40 is for the inexperienced Straight man, who spends a lot of that looking at his own eyes while his shaving hand shakes.

Bravo!!

But this is what Gillette will use in their ads...

They won't care a tinker's damn but that doesn't matter. You have seen the light and realize you are on the right path.
