What's new

Terminal Leave Date is getting CLOSER!

.

I've got less than sixteen hours left on active duty, and I'm just so happy!

Anyway, here's a comic. Just to add some meaningful content.

Congratulations and thank you for your service!

I was in your exact situation on June 24, 1988. Kind of bittersweet at the time because I was leaving behind some damned fine troopers that I had come to know, and in some cases, loved like the brothers I never otherwise had.

However; when I drove out of that gate at Hunter Army Airfield for the last time I never looked back. Seriously...I never even looked back in the rearview mirror at all.

I spent six years of my life in the Army. Some of it was good and some of it was bad. It was time to move on and I have had no regrets. I felt very fortunate in that I left whole and on my own two feet.

Yes, there have been challenges, but man, LIFE HAS BEEN GOOD!

I hope you have no regrets, either. May God bless you in your civilian life!

In just a few more hours you get to change over to a "Veteran" tag.

Make sure you stop at the PX/BX and purchase anything such as jackets, boots, etc. while you still can.

I don't know your "situation", but PLEASE allow me to give you one other very important piece of advice, and PLEASE keep it it mind. When you do your final outprocessing make sure to mention ANY problem, however seemingly slight, that you have experienced during your time of service, either physically or psychologically. Make sure to have ANY problems noted and have your medical records sent to the Department of Veterans Affairs. You never know, but that might very well become EXTREMELY IMPORTANT in later years. Perhaps sooner, rather than later.

Believe me....I know.

Brother, remember the above advice in the morning.

Regards,

David

Good for you! I will be in that boat soon. A hair under 4 to go.

That just kills me when folks run from the music. Granted, as a young Airman I have ran. But after being in for so long and really seeing what it's all about I make it a point to show the proper respect. It took me a real long time to realize that folks have died so we can play our song and raise our flag daily.

I am not ragging on anybody in particular, just venting a hair.

BTW THANKS MODS FOR UPDATING MY STATUS. Appreciate it.

Congrats for time - hopefully - well served.

Good luck moving out of the uniform, and keeping it off. There's plenty to do where they will value what you know, without putting the same one back on (there may be some other uniform calling, and a lot of them are damn good & worthy of your time too).

That reminds me of an incident that happened to me not long after I joined the Air Force -- it was the end of the day and the National Anthem was playing. I was outside, saluting the flag and this captain and E-9 (he was NOT a Chief...) walked by. The captain returned my salute and the pair continued on down the street, oblivious to the colors being lowered. Hmph.

The OP should be just about out by now -- car packed and headed for the front gate. When I left the Marine Corps in 1981, this is about the time when "Take This Job and Shove It" came on my AM/FM!
