I think I'm ready to respond now to my own question (I'm the OP of the thread):
After buying my first expensive razor a couple weeks ago (ATT Windsor SS .80), I can attest that it's not just the price that separates an expensive razor from a cheaper one. Superior build quality and a shave that sets it apart from my other razors. I've dialed it in already and I get the closest, smoothest & irritation free shave as compared to anything else I own (including my Lupo .72). Today i.e., 12 hours after a shave and it felt and looked like I had just shaved. Never with any other razor have I had these results. So yes, their definitely is a difference!
For me at least, it's worth the price paid.
So the bottom line for me is that you get what you pay for.
