Tell me more about this SE I got as a gift

So a good friend gave me this awesome gift set because he knew I was into wet shaving. I have never used this razor before but from photos I have seen in this forum, the razor looks like a streamline. I am not sure what the other thing is for or why there is a strop. I thought the second piece was an Autostrop razor, but it doesnt look like the Autostrop razor I have.

He bought it for 65$. Is it really worth that much? Anything else you can tell me about it?

I'd say its worth that much the second thing is for stropping blades you thread the strop through the stropper and hold it taunt pull the stropper back and forth 10-20 times to realign the blade edge and you can use the blade many more times I would think it would have worked better with the older thicker blades but you can try it just don't use stainless blades or you'll just ruin the edge worse it may work acceptably with a carbon blade like a treat or a gem blue star but I wouldn't recommend it blades aren't that expensive you should probably treat the strop with some dovo yellow first though and yes it's a streamline

The identical set sold on eBay.co.UK a couple of weeks ago. Roughly the same price, IIRC.

That is an Ever-Ready Streamline set, it should say streamline on the case. In my opinion, it is the best SE razor you can get. Very heavy duty. The set comes with a razor, blade stropper, and strop. you take the blade out of the razor, put it in the stropper, and use it on the strop, to help maintain the edge like you would a straight razor. Most folks do not actually use the strop and stropper. SE blades last long enough, there is really no need.

Your set looks to be in amazing condition, the strop looks brand new. It is worth well over what your friend paid for it.

Thanks for the info guys. Good to know my friend didnt over pay for this. He knows nothing about these razors.

Based on the info above, I dont think I will be stropping blades at all.

Congratulations! I sincerely hope that you use the razor. I just got one about a week ago and it's the best SE shaving experience that I've had.

Only way to value items like this is what people are willing to pay. I'll gladly pay more to buy it from you if you PM me. A set was on BST this weekend at $100 and was gone very quickly (quicker than me unfortunately). Not sure the relative conditions between yours and the one that just sold, but your friend did well and you'll enjoy that razor (unless you sell it to me, then I'll enjoy it ;-)
