Tatara - New Muramasa Adjustable Brush

We're thrilled to share some behind-the-scenes photos and insights into the development of our latest release: The Muramasa Adjustable Brush (Link here: Muramasa Adjustable Brush - Synthetic | Tatara Razors - https://bit.ly/3UvMR45).

Our aim was to complete the Muramasa line with an adjustable brush. We envisioned the convenience of a brush where we could control the hair length/loft and even the type of hair. That's been our focus over the past year, and we're excited to finally unveil it.

During the prototype phase, testing this brush truly revealed the potential, versatility, and innovation of adjustable loft. For instance, setting 3 for maximum loft when lathering in a bowl, and settings 1 or 2 for scrubbing, face lathering, or even gently lifting hairs on the first pass.

Our mission has always been to push boundaries and expand possibilities in traditional shaving. Our innovative and patented adjustable system was developed as a groundbreaking solution to fully unleash the potential of shaving brush hair fibers. Now, users can not only quickly adjust the loft but also switch between hair types, including Finest Badger, Premium Boar, and Synthetic.

Challenges:

We believe that sharing the challenges we faced in developing this brush will enhance the value of the journey for those who purchase and use it in the future.

Weight: Crafting stainless steel handles inherently adds weight to each piece. Designing a complex 7-piece system for adjustment and hair type switching without separating parts or creating a complicated assembly process was incredibly challenging. We had to machine a significant amount of material and even incorporate lighter aluminum into some parts to maintain balanced brush weight.

Hair Length and Knots: Typically, hair knots are glued to our stainless steel handles. However, for this adjustable brush, we had to create a movable cup to securely hold the hair and perfectly align with the lip of our design handles during assembly. Achieving significant loft adjustment required extreme measurements for the hair fibers used in our line. The black synthetic fibers from our Masamune line couldn't be used here due to length limitations, so with the help of Semogue, we developed a new synthetic hair for the Muramasa line.

Smooth Dial & Internal Knot Thread: To prevent thread damage to the knot piece, we've incorporated an internal thread that is not visible externally, making it more visually appealing and protecting the thread from damage in case of a drop.

Our handle cannot be disassembled without specialized tools, yet the dial must rotate smoothly and efficiently to control loft and facilitate hair switching. This presented a significant challenge, but we're proud to say we've conquered it through tight tolerances, and that's one secret we'll keep. ;)

Hope you enjoy this one and if you test it, let us know in the comments! We understand it's a relatively new and innovative brush, so we're open to organizing a pass-around on Badger & Blade if there's interest in trying out this system!

I used the muramasa brush and feel you guys did a great job with this brush. It performed really well and all 3 settings were useful.
