I think that stamp is in chinese, not japanese
Edit: Second guess about cheekbones was maybe wrong as
my chinese friend says my initial guess was right about a deity called zhong kui

YSS is a good stamp for quality, Yasuki Specialty steel from Hitachi.
He appears to have nice high cheekbones.
And in desperate need of a razor.

When I try with google translate the stamp on the tail, the last character also reports back as Kui. The first part was too faint and fuzzy for the camera to pick up. The stamp further up on the tang was difficult to try as the first character is covered by the scales.
Looks like it was stamped to cost one Bitcoin.
That is a nice touch.
