Tallow + Steel aftershave users: Do you leave your face wet .... dry .... somewhere in between?

So for those who, like me, love T+S aftershaves ..... here’s a question.

Their aftershave product description says:
“Highly concentrated - apply to a wet face for best results.”

I’ve tried applying it with:
1) My face and hands both dripping wet
2) My face dripping wet but my hands dry
3) My face dry and my hands wet
4) My face with just a film of water .... after wiping it a few times with my hands ....... and my hands still wet
5) My face with just a film of water .... after wiping it a few times with my hands ....... and my hands dry
6) My face and my hands both dry

I’m trying to figure out how it works best, and for me right now I’m mostly doing #5. I don’t really like 1-4 much. Too wet. And I feel like #6 is wrong somehow.... but I like the feel.

What do you guys do? And why do you like it that way?

I always apply witch hazel immediately post-shave, let dry and then apply any aftershave. Reduces any shaving irritation and provides a clean foundation for an aftershave. I use a witch hazel solution (14% alcohol), with no additions like the "toner" type witch hazel products with aloe, so it evaporates completely.
