Talc users?

I'm becoming somewhat addicted to this...no I don't snort it.

I have one of those powder-dispensing brushes that I loaded up with Clubman talc and it seems every time I am in the bathroom, I impulsively give my neck a good dust. I love it after a shower or as a post-after shave too.

Any other talc freaks here?

I use Clubman Talc after my shower at the gym. I remember my father back in the 60's using Mennen Face Talc after shaving. Haven't seen that in years.

I was before I realized how much of a mess it was making. If I use it again it will probably be in the Summer during the suffocating humidity or when I am traveling and somebody else has to clean up the mess.

Based on some threads I read on these boards, I decided to make my own. Boy am I glad I did. I just use pure cornstarch (because i am a new father and am a little bit paranoid about the supposed negative cancer causing properties of talc - ymmv, I don't really know if it is true). Anyway, so I placed the cornstarch in a plastic container, dumped a bunch of Old SPice cologne in it, let it dry and shook it up to break the clumps, and voila!: Old spice scented "talc". It's delicious smelling and works like a charm if your goal is to keep you dry. And it's cheap too! Love it! ANd yes, addicted! I'm thinking when I use this up, I might try to make a new batch with a different cologne or aftershave. Clubman, Bay Rum or even Terre D'Hermes or Caron Yatagan scented talc anyone? YUM!!!

To the OP: what kind of brush are you using? I'm tempted to buy one myself.

I just realized the irony in my sardonic "snort" comment. You're right, it can really fill up the air and I probably inadvertently inhale a small fraction of what is actually used so to speak.

Hmm, I might be interested in some fragrant talc.

As for the brush, I have no idea of the brand. I got it from a friend who I think got it with a haircutting kit.

A question for Borotalco users. How's the menthol? I have seen it described as both very mild and significant. Likely ymmv on that. Scent? Heavy or light? Thanks

Cheers, Todd

I'm interested in a link for a brush for applying talc. I could then use christhach's method of making my own talc from corn starch and avoid the risk of cancer from real talc while having talc scented however I wanted.

I use talc for my swim cap. It's an old spanish brand, Calber. I love the smelling.

One of the reasons I decided to cool-it with the talc. When you have seeping sinuses and you use a lot of talc, you end up going out in public looking like you do something illegal and in bad taste, and don't always realise it.

Clubman is about as fragrant as a burnt cake.
Burnt cakes are pretty fragrant. Either you've acclimated to the smell of Clubman or you're just immune to that particular scent? I have that problem with the stuff they put in Propane so that you can smell a leak. I can't smell it. My nose is pretty darn sensitive to just about everything else though.

Just so you guys know, the cancer piece of this comes from various sources. One is the usage of talc in women's underwear, which can cause uterine cancer. The other was done by a study using lab rats and causing them to breathe in continuously until a tumor was formed. So unless asbestos is in your talc (which isn't likely at all), and you are a woman using talc in your underwear, you're not going to get cancer...well, unless you inhale it A LOT.

You can also just hold your breath to avoid inhaling it as well.
