I just received my first puck of Tabac soap and was wondering, if I want to put it in a mug do I mill it or put it in the microwave for a few seconds? I think I remember reading it had tallow in it so I'm leaning towards milling it. Thanks

You absolutely can't melt a tallow based soap. So milling is the only option. 
I wouldnt even mill it. Take a knife and trim a ring aorund the sides until it fits the mig. Throw the shaving from the sides into the mug, put the cake on top. Problem solved.
Trim to fit...toss trimmings under the puck also works.
For those of us who haven't learned yet. Why not melt it?
The container I milled my Tabac into was wider than the puck, Pressed and formed the shavings into the container which gives me a lot of surface area to work with and the soap fits snugly in the container so it won't move around.
The tallow will burn. Glycerine based soaps like VDH will melt easily and then you can pour them into a suitable container.
If you melt it, it will pour down the sink more easily. 
When I tried to melt a tallow based soap it basically turned into styrafoam and expanded like those growing snakes you get around the 4th of July.
Buy another puck with the ceramic dish and keep that one as a refill

but not milled soap. If you insist though, put an expensive puck into the microwave, push the button and see what happens. But remember, you have been warned not to. May as well flush your cash down the crapper.
