Tabac smell

haha I think it was me. I say this every time I read about the Tabac scent. In fact, I was so ready to write this for one more time. You got me.
It's definitely an "old ladies purse" scent.

So, a little update. Not a whole lot has changed, but the Tabac scent - as underwhelming as it is, does seem to stand its own against other soaps and creams as time goes by. It does have me occasionally walking into the bathroom randomly to sniff it. Sometimes it just smells like soap to me, other times I feel like it is "gentle, soft, pillowy, powdery" in a mild but pleasant way. I probably wouldn't mind using it long term. There are definitely much more interesting and complex scents out there, and much more masculine ones too (in my opinion), but I guess what I'm saying is that I can understand why Tabac has stood the test of time all these years.

Yes, I could easily use it as a repellent. My backyard would be insect-free (and people-free). :001_tongu

No... citronella and some other essential oils commonly found in shave soaps are the real insect repellants. Not even joking, that is what is used for insect repellant!
I know I know. I was teasing you. I have a couple of citronella candles but they don't work very well. Maybe I should give Tabac a try!

I still haven’t tried Tabac and I have wanted to for a very long time. Just seems every time I go to buy a new soap I go for one that could be sold out “next time” and I always skip Tabac knowing it’ll be there....have a great day gentlemen

Tabac is great soap and smells just fine, to me

Wife likes it just fine when I use Tabac soap for my shave and follow it with Tabac Aftershave and Tabac Cologne. :001_wub:

YMMV :)

Finally got myself a proper New in box Tabac ceramic bowl with fresh unused Tabac soap puck inside. Previously, I only had the small penny sample donated to me.

I did a proper lather and shave. I noticed the full Tabac bowl has a more potent top note scent. I'm guessing what happened was the penny sample I had was so old (from the previous owner) that it lost a lot of its top notes and just became a powdery soapy base note. I was actually getting used to that powdery soapy scent and my initial reaction of the fresh Tabac is somewhat less positive. I am definitely getting the "70's porn star backseat of car", mixed with "old grandpa" mixed with "antique thrift store" and a tinge of "stale cigarette ash tray". It's heavier and quite retro and classic smelling, I'm too young to know for sure but i definitely imagine this is a very familiar scent for people who grew up in the 60's and 70's. Not terrible, but I'm not as fond of it now as I was becoming with my penny sample

Performance is top notch, nearly identical to Fine Accoutrements which now I can't help but think those have superior, more modern and light fresh and citrusy scents compared to Tabac.

I'll let the Tabac air out a bunch and revisit it later

Lol nothing wrong with a jar of stirling electric sheep ;-)
Ok and it keeps mozzies at bay.. and sometimes ladies :-(

My first shave with Tabac and it was amazing. This soap will stay in my rotation. Excellent lather quickly: 30 sec load time with my Shave Forge boar knot, about 30 secs in the scuttle and an explosion of lather. The lather was thick and slick. I also really like the smell and LOTH liked it as well, right off the puck. After shaving for the last month with MdC, I put Tabac right up there with it.

The razor is the Parker semi slant with a Personna comfort coated blades on its 6th shave.

Yep, Arko and Tabac, it just doesn’t get any better than this.

Do you people find the different versions of tabac smell slightly different as well? I have the cologne, but don't like it nearly as much as the soap.

Yep, they are all some variation on the theme of Tabac. Kind of like the Goldberg Variations, all interesting in their own certain way :D
