Tabac? sick of first shave threads?

well too bad....
Here is MY experience ymmv as always:
I went to this 'experiment' with a few pangs of doubt. Was it as horrid as it was reported to be? Would the bathroom smell of rotted wildebeest or worse? I gingerly open the foil pack and <GASP> HORRORS!!! it smelled like.....soap :confused1:confused1 Well the various reports could NOT have been over exaggerated ...could they? NOT on B&B that font of shaving wisdom! I showered and prepped as I normally do, with a bit of knee knocking and mustering of courage for the ordeal to come -Tabac is AWFUL I have been assured-(it's scent will eat your face like a rabid wolverine going to a buffet). My main fear was indeed the scent. It has been described in some of it's 'notes' and having a vanilla like scent. One scent I can't deal with IS vanilla-it sets my allergies off fiercely. I heated the water, my brush etc. etc and loaded the Tabac. Surprise....not so bad...and btw...as a native of Winston-Salem, NC and VERY used to the smell of tobacco- it really doesn't smell like it to me-it smells like....soap.Now I am not a sommelier, and I don't play one on TV , I can't detect the complex scents and 'tastes' (smell being a partial function of taste) and all of that...but it truly was not bad. The 'cushion' provided by and the amount of lather seems good indeed. Would this be my go to soap that I'd kill my relatives for? No, certainly not. I am sure no such soap exists, but this stuff isn't bad. My advice :Don't believe the hype-just try it..you MIGHT like it

Thank you for the report. I have been debating about whether or not The Shave Den Motor Oil shave soap would be my next soap or to go to Tabac. After your review, I think I am going to go with The Shave Den and save the Tabac for later.

just after i ordered mine, i saw quite a few saying how badly it smelled. i was second guessing my decision to purchase it, up until the first time i lathered with it. i LOVE the way it smells. yes, it doesn't smell like those pretty-boy stores that you can smell from half the mall away, but i don't want to smell like those 3/4 naked pretty boys who have yet to grow a body hair.

it lathers like mad, but i'm not 100% sold on it. yes, it lathers by itself, almost, but i've gotten closer, smoother shaves from the other 2 soaps in my sig.

i will say, though, that i got a great shave with it tonight using my feathers! this is my 2nd time with the feathers, the first behind with c.o. bigalow, and i got an almost bbs after 3 passes, and little to no irritation.

i'm glad i found a blade that i like to use with the tabac, because i really dig the scent

uhhhh glad I could help?? :confused1:confused1

Me I love Tabac but like alot of other scents I think it is a individual thing! Me I actually take a dollop of Tabac cream and place it on my soap puck to enhance the scent even more! I then follow it up with Tabac AS! Now I have to say that the ladies enjoy the scent....of course I am 55 so maybe that is the issue! LOL

glad to see someone else from goldsboro on here! I have been nervous about the scent thing myself, i think im gonna check it out.

The performance of Tabac is top notch. Depending on your particular nose, the scent might be something that needs to grow on you.

My first try with the soap, I found the scent to be very overpowering, and nauseating.

On a second revisit some 4-5 months later, I have found I actually enjoy the scent, and it is not even that overly strong. :001_tt1::001_tt1:

I have to say that Tabac is really growing on me, functionally at least. It is indeed, "good stuff." Opening the pack and letting it breathe for a few days (another wine metaphor!) does neutralize the scent a lot. But, really, it isn't that bad in the first place.

We just like to carry on!

I bought a stick of it a couple of weeks ago. To date, I've been using Proraso and a cheapie Palmolive stick.

The scent is unique, but I like it, and it works well as a lather IMHO.

I think it smells efficient (being German 'n all.... :001_tt2:)

Glad you liked it! I started using it because it was the only kind of decent shave soap I could find here in Africa and now I've grown to love it more and more. I'm a big fan of Tabac.

Man I hate Tabac. First I tried to light it in my pipe, all that did was stop up my pipe and stain the bowel. Then I tried to roll it in cigarette papers and all I did was set off the smoke alarm. Next, I tried to put a pinch between my cheek and gum. How do you spell diarrhea? Tried to snuf a pinch up my nose and next thing you know I am sneezing bubbles. Lastly, I tried shaving with it. Boy was I surprised, shaved great, smells great, smokes like doody.
