What's new

Tabac or Not Tabac Indeed.

My new title is especially appropriate. I just ordered Tabac Shaving Cream from WCS. i had kind of given up on creams over a year ago and focused on soaps. But I bought some Irisch Moos and love it. So I decided it was time to try Tabac. So, all you Tabac fans, what am I going to like about it? Did I make a mistake buying the cream instead of the soap (I am currently wed to MWF and Mike's when it comes to soap.)?
Are there Tabac haters out there as there are haters of Arko and MWF?
I am looking forward to trying such a famous shaving cream.

I usually Superlather Tabac soap and cream together, but if I had to choose just one, it would be the cream.

I've never tried mixing Tabac cream with MWF or any other soaps, but there's nothing stopping you from doing so. Just be sure to report back here with the results.

Really, though, nothing goes better with Tabac except more Tabac. When I use it, I use the whole range of products. Its like the individual instruments of an orchestra. One by one, they sound OK, but put them all together, and they make beautiful music.

Many people consider Tabac to be a cold-weather product. Give it a try when you get it next week, but if it doesn't suit you, set it aside and break it out again when the temperature dips below 50. You may find a different result the next time around.

Never tried the cream and like to hear about it.

I use only creams, Proraso green, Palmolive Italian and Nivea are my favorites.

Only soaps I use are Palmolive stick and Tabac.

The Tabac soap has a strong scent on the puck but great as a lather. It lather really well and performs really well too. Like it a lot. I am sure the cream will be moe similar to standard palmolive like creams and perform well too.

I think the soap leather is a bit stiffer wheras the cream lathers I am getting at leat a bit more yoghurt like. In the end I do not care as muich since performance is good and I care more about the scent.

Recently I have been adding Glycerin directly to the bowl and then soaps and crreas make a similar thick slimy yoghurt like batter.

Have fun.

There certainly are Tabac haters out there, as with all products. I am not one of them though. The scent isn't for everyone.
You can't go wrong with either the soap or cream. I prefer the soap, but the cream is great also.

Thanks for the comments. I will report back once it arrives...guessing, hmm, I travel, if it doesn't arrive by Tuesday, It'll be week after next. I am really looking forward to this.

Ditto to everything above well said indeed.

I live in the tropics and love it and have Tabac bath soap, cream, soap, AS and cologne; just missing the balm. The shave cream seems to get less love than the soap but I think its great and it does make for super lather with the soap which I also love.

If I could get Tabac flavoured bacon and eggs I would consider it the ultimate morning layering.

I really like Tabac shaving cream and prefer it to the soap, not that there's anything wrong with the soap, just a case of YMMV.

I love my Tabac cream. The smell is just amazing, very masculine and unique. The cream lathers very well and is super slick. It's one of the creams that I will always keep in the rotation. I like the smell so much that I'm considering buying the aftershave and cologne. The only thing keeping me from doing that is my cheapness and the price, the two don't mix well.

Tabac SC lathers best on the face and softens whiskers better than most other creams I've used and the moisturizing is pretty decent. I like my lathers a bit wetter and this holds up well, it is a bit denser and yogurt like, not much fluff. It's always underrated by the Tabac soapers, but I love both, the scent is stronger than the soap, and the last three tubes I bought, I noticed a pronounced Citrus/Orange note which, IMO, complimented the Spicier notes of the cream.

I happen to like Tabac. I like the soap better than the cream. I like most soaps better than creams when both versions are available. I don't find it a strong macho scent like Brut but pleasant enough and not offending. I think that Irisch Moos and Tabac creams are very much similar in performance but not scent. Some who dislike Tabac have described it as having a smell that they would associate with an old ladies make up bag. I kind of get what they are referring to but it has not kept me from enjoying the scent. I think it is similar to Arko in that most people won't find it offensive but pleasant enough and 15% of the population will hate it with a passion. Let us know in which camp you find yourself.

I've found it takes a little more of this cream to get sufficient lather for three passes, but it is a very dense lather. I will get my Tabac fix from the cream after going through a puck of the soap. I haven't quite figured out why they chose a flourescent color for the cream yet. I think it should be a pearlescent tan, like the final soft remnants of my Tabac puck!

It was Irisch Moos that propelled me toward Tabac. I was strictly a soap man until I tried Irsich Moos. Wow! Now I have my sights set on Tabac. I will most certainly express my opinion as soon as I can. The best part about lots of travel is there are always AD gear awaiting my return. The worst part is when the Tabac is due to arrive the day after I leave. Taking Irisch Moos and MWF with me to San Diego and then Amarillo.

I think you may be on to something here. We could also feed the sheep Tabac then imagine the lather in ones morning shave from the new formulation Tabac fed MWF whilst smelling the "Tabac an Eggs" cooking !

I have always loved the Tabac scent, starting with the cologne back in the 70's. I find the cream just doesn't do it for me in terms of performance. It tends to be runny, there are much better creams out there. Scent in a cream is really secondary to me, once I apply witch hazel, it is gone anyway. Now, taking a shave with one of my TOBS creams and finishing with Tabac splash, now your talking!

I think part of the reason for the Fluorescence & color may be due to the oil content of some of the ingredients, I second your observation on its density or lack of fluff/ airiness. This is one cream that benefits greatly by allowing it to stay on your face for ~1-2 minutes before shaving, I get some of the smoothest & closest shaves from this cream my skin feels very pliant & soft.

Take FL shaver's advice and try extra cream if you still have some on hand.
