When I joined this forum about 8 years ago, I got real excited when I first ordered some Tabac. I just knew I was going to love it. I was ecstatic when it arrived. Then I smelled it. I didn't even have to open the tub, for the entire package reeked! So I put it in the cabinet with the top off. The next morning, I lathered it up. It seemed like a good enough soap, but I couldn't stand the smell, and I probably couldn't make a very good lather at the time either! I gave it about 3 months with no top and infrequent use hoping that the smell would dissipate, but it didn't even seem to weaken! So I joined the forum shortly after and it was my first trade on the BST.
Now topics like this make me want to revisit Tabac. I think our senses of smell change and get more sophisticated with more experience. I distinctly remember hating the smell of TOBS Sandalwood back in those days, but now I love it. I think I'll give Tabac another try sometime. Maybe I'll be surprised!
Lol - spoken like a true Tabac addict. Am guilty of being one too - and having the morbid fear that they discontinue the soap or worse change the recipe to vegan ! [emoji849]Until about three months ago, I detested the scent of Tabac. I seem to recall being inspired or goaded into buying the soap by @Polarbeard - a most respected bear. At the time I didn’t know what I was getting into but before long I found myself buying Tabac aftershave then it was Tabac cologne then I fell into that Tabactober thing and now I can’t stop. I even find myself using Williams less frequently and have a difficult time using other soaps. I must admit I’ve never been a real soap guy but I did have a half dozen or so. If I don’t use Tabac two or three times a week, I get tremors and have a difficult time sleeping. I even put some Tabac cologne on before I go to bed now. I need help. I want everyone to stop buying it because I have developed this paranoia that they may run out.
A couple of years back I almost bought some Tabac, but I was able to smell it beforehand and concluded "No thanks!" But it keeps showing up on everyone's list of soaps you have to try. So I broke down and bought some. Smelled it again and thought "Well, this will be a short-lived experiment."
Had my first Tabac shave this morning. As I was lathering up, disliking the scent, I thought "I've been at this long enough that I can get a good shave with almost anything now. It's unlikely this soap is going to be noticeably better than anything else I've used." Wrong. I got an amazing shave. That is one good soap. Holy wow.
I still do not like the scent. Not even a little.

I believe Tabac is here to stay. Vegan is a scary thought though. That would cause me to stop using it. I hate anything vegan and avoid “organic” at all cost. Perhaps we are Tabacanistas.Lol - spoken like a true Tabac addict. Am guilty of being one too - and having the morbid fear that they discontinue the soap or worse change the recipe to vegan ! That is so true. Several years ago I found the aftershave on a deep sale. I thought since it was from Germany it had to be good stuff. I used it once and threw all three large bottles away. Now, i put some cologne on before I go to bed. Go figure.+1! Tabac performs!! The only question is whether you (learn to) like the scent IMHO.
So if I understood correctly, there's no way back after tomorrow's delivery?
