SWMBO wants her own DE

I could use some help with this one, especially from any ladies around. My fiancee has been mentioning she would like to start DE shaving. She's not overly sensitive or anything, she uses cheapo disposables at the moment! Can anyone recommend a good razor for her? I'm thinking something with a long handle like the Krona to make the reach easier.

This will also open up other purchase options for me as I can give her the 100 Red Israeli Personnas I will never use again after discovering the joys of Feathers. She'll have plenty of blades and a new razor so maybe I won't get the "You're buying more stuff, especially when you have 100 blades you just purchased and refuse to use? Reaaallllyyy..." look. :wink2:

Truthfully she could use any razor that you do. However, Gillette in their wisdom did offer the Lady Gillette razors which looked a bit more feminine and had a longer handle allegedly making it easier for them to shave their legs. The Lady Gillette's are generally easy to find and can be had at very affordable prices.

I think most of the ladies(I know mine) would say the following...

1-Lady Gillette
2-Krona
3-Knack/Slim Twist
4-Long Handled Super Adjustable

(Not necassarily in any order)

The ladies tend to prefer the longer handled razors, in general. Mine settled on the Lady Gillette and Krona. If you can get the wife to sign up on B&B, I & SWMBO have a Ladies Only PIF. My wife was nice enough to only give me crap about my hobby until I got her her own razors... Then she has smiled and marveled at the DE shaves she gets, either from me or her. Anyway, get her to join, get her to sign up for my PIF, and get her to talk to the other ladies here on B&B!!

I got my bride a blue Lady, but she likes the Krona just as well, and they are generally available for less money.

The Krona was what I was originally thinking. Maybe I'll get her one of those, that way I can try it out! Maybe I'll get her the Lady Gillette too, I know she'd like the more feminine look of it.

Gotta say...

I got mine a Super, practical woman she is she said "Why the hell do you need to adjust it, your only shaving with it!". I just smiled nodded my head and said "yeah I don't know what idiot came up with this... Here try the Krona it doesn't adjust".

My wife wanted a DE. Saw a Lady Gillette Blue I was cleaning for a friend and said I'd use one of those. She loves it. Only bad thing I can say about the Lady Gillette is that they go fast here on BST and its one of the few items I found that you can get a better deal for less money at the bay. Of course you still have to be more cautious there. I paid $16 for a mint/excellent. Past sales on BST are in the $26 range. Only two replies to my WTB which happened a couple of weeks after I bought one. First person asked for $42 for a mint. They do seem to be very nice shavers and again SWMBO loves it.

Yeah, I entertained the idea a while back, but lady gillettes seem to go for a fair decent chunk o' change, so much that it's more expensive than any razor I bought for myself.
That's why I suggested the knack slim twist or g1000

I personally love my EJ89 ivory, but that's the only one I've tried. I actually like the shorter than Lady Gillette handle because of my setup and it fits marvelously in my hand. There's really a lot to choose from, and more than just vintage that's nice, so look at lots of things. It's got the perfect weight and it's not too aggressive.

+1 my gf loves her Lady Gillette.

I showed her the Lady Gillette and she loved it. I'm going to keep an eye out for one for her. I may pick up a Krona, since I wanted one too. Then she'll have something to use at least. She's really been harping at me for a DE now that she knows I'm looking!

I appreciate all the suggestions and help, thanks everyone!

A blue handled Lady Gillette I got here on the Buy-Sell-Trade forum for eighteen bucks. She has tried most of the blades I have tried and prefers the sharpness of the Feathers. She also wanted a razor with a red handle, so I got her a red handled Merkur 38C.

That, along with her own super badger brush and a bowl of lavender soap.

The only thing that I think might be a drawback to using a vintage razor is its unavailability. For example, if you lose yours in lost baggage, you can't be too sure of being able to get another one, let alone replace it in a hurry.

That is why you always buy at least 2 or 3 of everything
