What's new

SWMBO=Awesome

Yesterday was my birthday, and when I got home from work after a 12 hour shift, I had my present waiting for me. After my 2 year old daughter helped me unwrap the box, I opened the box to find a Dirty Bird Original Scuttle with the brown glazing!!

Do you submerge the scuttle in your sink to heat it up (I shave after showering), and then fill it with hot water?

Would hot tap water be sufficient for keeping everything nice and warm?

Any other suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Congrats on the sweet scuttle. Whether tap water is hot enough up to you because it is for some while not for others. It also will depend on your hot water setting. Mine is higher than most and is more than enough.

To the other question, I just fill the inner & upper chambers while I soak the brush in the upper chamber. When I'm done soaking my brush, I refresh the water in the inner chamber. Works well for me.

Congrats and enjoy!

If it turns out that your tap water in conjunction with Rich's process doesn't make it quite warm enough, submerging the whole thing in a hot sink of water initially should help.

i fill the hollow bit and bowl with hot water from the tap, then when im ready to use it, i empty it all out and refill the hollow bit with new hot water

Nice to hear thatotherguy! Hope you had a pleasant birthday. Had mine yesterday as well! :001_smile

Myself I've only filled the bottom part with hot water, and after shower I dump that out and refill, or if I don't shower first, it's still the same I just fill it up a bit before I shave, and then when I'm ready to I refill with hot water. I have an Old Spice shaving mug that would get lonely so I use that for soaking my brush. :wink2:

I put mine in the sink full of hot water while I shower. Then I drain it when I'm ready to shave, and re-fill it with hot water again. That does it for me, I just use the hot water from the tap. :rolleyes: :tongue: :wink:

Thanks for the replies, I didn't think about pouring out the water and filling it with hot water agian. That sounds like a great plan, my tap water gets pretty hot, I am only able to leave my hand under it for just a few seconds.

Awesome gift! But, in case you didn't know,

My water is heated by the same oil fired heater that heats out baseboard units, its sorta on demand type. I have not installed a scald guard so the water coming from the hot tap is literally scalding hot! Great for shaving but I will have to change this when the kids come along.

After using the scuttle for the first time, I noticed how it seemed to make lather very rapidly. My lather making time seemed to be cut nearly in half! It was able to keep my brush and lather warm for 2 passes on the face, and 2 passes on my dome! I am very impressed!

When using a bowl, I like to hold it in my hand. But, with the scuttle, holding it by the handle was a little difficult due to the lather going everywhere, and making it very slippery to hold. I had to place the scuttle on the counter to finish making my lather, due to being afraid I would drop and break it. Any suggestions, or do I just need to adjust to not holding the scuttle.
