I always wanted to shave with a Straight Blade Razor, this web site has been an inspiration. Like the comradery and support between members as new members post there experiences.
I live in a small farming town with an "Old Time" barber. He's been my mentor showing me how to hone and strop a razor to a shave ready condition. He's even selected a few razors from his extensive collection for me to learn on.
With his help and information gathered from you guys I have now started shaving with a straight blade. My old Gilletts and the new Merkur I just purchased are now gathering dust in the bathroom cabinet.
So far so good, just a few weepers no cuts and I'm starting to get a shave close enough to dance cheek to cheek with the lady in my life on Friday nights. (I'm at an age where the women in my life look for a man with a freshly ironed shirt, polished shoes and a close shave)
However I do have a problem, possibly someone can help me. You see one of my razors has been damaged. The pins where tight and the end of the scales have cracked and broken. It's a pedestrian quality razor but I like it and I would like to get it repaired (new scales and pins) Would like simple style scales so as to fit with it's heritage.
Please advise if anyone wants to take on a job like this. Below is a photo of the razor.
PS: Can anyone tell me about this razor? --- When was it made? Quality? It's stamped "SALEMMARKOS & BROS Waranted"
Thanks guys for making this quality site ... and a true gathering place for gentlemen to share a common interest.
