Sweedo Razor

Picked this up at a shop nearby for less than 10 bucks. Cleaned up well, heavy built piece it seems to me at least. I'll shave with it Thursday morning and if I can I'll post an update on it. Just never heard of Sweedo, has anyone else??

I was holding a very worn open comb sweedo earlier today. Almost all if the plating had gone exposing the brass underneath. They were asking $16 for it. Just looked like too much work for me to take on. But it did work smoothly.

I have a Sweedo and have shaved with it. You may have a frankenrazor on your hands. I could be mistaken, but your razor looks like a fat handled Gillette Tech handle and cap with a Sweedo base plate. A standard DE blade will not fit overa Sweedo cap's pegs without modification. A standard DE blade's center hole is too small and the two outer holes are in a slightly different position. I cut out the center of a DE blade and managed to work the blade over the Sweedo's pegs. For me, the shave was close, but gentle.

The base plate is another metal than the cap and handle. The blade fit on without any issue. The shave was tough and aggressive to me at least. Not a keeper for me.

I had one (actually, I still have it and will repair it if I can find a new cap) until it fell in the shower and broke the stem on the cap. I also have a Gillette New style open comb razor. Aside from the fact that I had to modify the base of the stem in order to get it to take a standard razor blade (http://badgerandblade.com/vb/showth...d-like-input!-Sweedo-DE?p=6399079#post6399079), I liked how it shaves better than my Gillette (yes, I know, I have probably just committed some kind of blasphemy by saying that). The Gillette is far too aggressive for my liking, and my Swee-do provided a very comfortable shave. I might try getting my hands on a Gillette Old Style if I can't track down another Swee-do; the heads are very similar. The gap between the head and the blade on my Gillette New is just a little too wide for my face.
