Swan Vesta Matches (source)

So I bought a few boxes of the long matches off of eBay. I’m currently on my last box. I can’t seem to find a place that sells the long matches. Does anyone have a source?

How long? I use Red Bird which are about 2" for lighting a fire in my fireplace. The Canadian Tire has long thick matches from Diamond . . . huge things.

I was looking into this a bit. There have been changes in what is allowed for the construction of matches. No more strike anywhere matches due to the chemicals involved. So, in the EU only "Safety" matches. Perhaps some longer matches will yet evolve.

That's just my take on this . . . and I've been wrong a lot.

Did they ever email you back?
Isaac:
They (House of Swan), did e-mail back;

"We are the distributor in the UK and do not manufacturer matches.

Other territories include the US etc, the UK does not sell the Vesta as an extra long match".

You perhaps could contact Swedish Match directly who manufacture Swan Vesta".

So, I e-mailed Swedish Match two (2), days ago and am waiting for them to reply.

Whew...finally Swedish Match wrote;

I wrote back;
Thomas:
So, there’s no shortage of these matches from your end?

Also, who’s your distributor in the USA / Amazon?

Swedish Match Rep (Thomas) replied;

I may ask Thomas to elaborate (I'm at whits end), but I think I may not get the answers we
would like. :sad:

I think he's trying to tell you they own the TM, but are no longer producing them for sale here.

I find this thread fascinating. I use a Corona 90% of the time, or a Diamond kitchen match stolen from Mrs. Columbo in a pinch. Never needed more than that.

I'm curious about the intense hunt for this particular match.

Do tell?

It’s just a clean burning 3” long match. So you can usually get through one pipe lighting with one match. Or the “proper” toasting and lighting of a cigar with three.

I just recently picked up green diamond matches. Seems to be going well, they just burn quicker.

Issac:
So it seems we’re at a loss for Swan matches...but what makes a good cigar match alternative?

Cedar or wood?

Carbonized or sulfur-free heads?

3 3/4in or 4in long?
