Supermax Super Platinum Blades

I recently purchased some Supermax Super Platinum blades from David at razorbladesandmore.com. ( B&B vendor). All I have to say, is that these are VERY sharp and smooth blades. You have to keep your wits about you at all times and use no pressure at all as I found them unforgiving. Generally I have trouble with blades this sharp, so hopefully my face will get used to them!

The Vidyut people are making well-regarded products these days. I hope they keep up the good work; it's nice to know there are alternatives to Gillette, Schick, and Personna.

You know what I mean!

They are good, but because I find them so sharp and need to be so careful, I feel like a newbie again:blush:

I absolutely LOVE these blades!
To me they are about the same as Red Personna in smoothness and for a much better price. I have 200 of them that I bought from David and another 100 on the way
I rank them with Personna Reds and Gillette Super Thins and just a hair above Astra and Derby.

One of the blades i absolutely despised. Mine was the old packaging. Also said they were made in England. Tore my face up. The ones on his site looking completely different.

Big Jay,

Most people confuse the Supermax Platinum with the SUPERMAX SUPER PLATINUM. I love this blade on my face and it does have similar effects like the Red Packs.

I have posted a picture so you can know which blades this topic refers to. Hope it is ok with you guys.

I found the super platinum to be pretty average in all regards. I had no real complaints, but they weren't an epiphany type experience either. They were smoother than the Supermax Platinum, but I got decent results from both.

I use the Super-Max Platinums (NOT the Super Plats) and have had excellent results in my 1960 SS and 1959 FatBoy.

I totally forgot about a pack of Super Plats that David slipped in with my order a couple of months ago.....Thank You! I had my first shave with one tonight and my first impression is they seem to be pretty sharp and smooth. We'll see how the second and third shaves turn out in the coming days.

Digging an old thread but my query seems relevant here. Please help me in differentiating between supermax super platinum and supermax paltinum plus blades.

Here is the picture from their website.

If some one has used them both, is there a big difference in their sharpness and smoothness or they are almost the same.
Is there any possibility that they are same but packed differently.

I am very curious to know about it as in my country only supermax platinum plus is available and if they are comparable to supermax super platinum plus or a repackage then i will buy in bulk.

I have used both the Platinum and Super Platinum, and am a big fan of both blades. Unfortunately, I have never even seen the Platinum Plus advertised with any vendor and thought it only a wet shaving myth. The Super Platinum has been impossible to find recently, so I contacted Supermax to inquire if they had been discontinued or could be ordered directly. They advised me that their platinum blades are all the same, just with different packaging depending on location. Although I thought there were very slight differences between the Platinum and Super Platinum, it may have been the result of psychological bias or simply a manufacturing discrepancy due to being a different batch of blades. In any event, as both platinums are excellent and reasonably priced, and I would not hesitate to feel confident ordering any platinum in bulk.

Good luck.

Thanks a lot for the quick reply and clarifying the situation. In my country only supermax platinum plus is available and I have not seen Supermax super platinum or supermax platinum blades on stores. Luckily, I found supermax titanium on a store and bought about 100 blades. I was afraid that I will loose them as I lost my favorite Gillette super platinum blues that just disappeared from the market. I think titanium are no more available locally and the company is also not producing them as its not on their website. The one I bought seemed to be from the old import that is also going to end soon or has already depleted. I will try to find supermax super platinum from the local wholesale market and if its not available there then i will buy supermax paltinum plus before they also go to an end or the stock gets finished.
Now mostly I see supermax stainless blades with most of the whole sellers.

Also note that the customer service representative at Supermax with whom I spoke claimed that all the Stainless blades (regular, Super and Plus) are the same, but that the Titanium is totally different from the either the stainless or platinum. In any event, the website has not been updated for some time and cannot be relied upon to accurately reflect Supermax's current product line-up.

However, I do believe that the stainless and platinum are still in production. They are listed for purchase in the Supermax USA web store and the representative offered to let me directly purchase very large bulk quantities of both blades at a low wholesale price . I have also seen both blades on Ebay and with some vendors. I would also imagine that you would have an easier time locating the blades in Pakistan compared to the USA which is a retail wasteland for double edge blades and related items in favor of the latest neon-colored, multi-bladed, "Shaving Systems" from Gillette or Schick.

Good luck with your search and I welcome your thoughts on the Platinum Plus blades.

Thanks for the info...there are very few blades that I haven't tried...

I will buy a pack when my stock runs out.

Thanks for the information but I have postponed these blades buy for some time as I found Gillette 7oclock super platinum blades (czech made) from a store fortunately or unfortunately (they are getting rust too soon).

200 blades of gillette super platinum blue pack
110 supermax titanium
100 derby
100 lord classics
100 gillette sharp edge
almost 30 or more various treet local brands

100 Astras, 20 derby, 20 Rapira SS, 20 shark SS coming from my brother in Canada through bestshave.net.
Also continuously mailing my sister in saudia asking to bring gillette super platinum blacks and 2 packs of every other brand she could find I think I should stop this now for some months.

I think I also have AD since the past two months. I think SuperMax Platinum plus will continue to be available in my country for some time. I forgot to tell that I already have 2 or 4 packs of it but I am unable to do the tests as an expert as there are also a lot of other factors contributing to a sharp and smooth shave and with same blade one can get different results with different razors etc. in short YMMV :)

We are lucky to get many brands available here. The one I could find by now are

1) Lord classics
2) Lord superstainless
3) Lord crown
4) Bigben
5) Gillette super stainless russian
6) Gillette sharpedge yellow pack
7) Gillette super platinum blue russian(my fav. but not available now)
8) vidyut/supermax ss
9) Supermax platinum plus
10) Supermax titanium
11) Treet all types
12) Derby (quite surprised to see a 100 pack carton with some whole seller)

Regarding locating of blades it is not that much difficult to get the gillette yellows and green from general stores (grocery stores) as Gillette is famous brand so many of the shops keep these blades but mostly cartridge system is readily available at every shop (blueII blueIII etc).
For the above mentioned I had to visit a wholesale market in particular as some of them were only available with them.
