Superior 70 Bay Rum

I was in my local CVS the other day when I saw a 12 oz. bottle of this for $2.25. Since it was so cheap, I bought it on a lark with few expectations.

I think the stuff is fabulous as an aftershave splash. Just a hint of alcohol sting and very soothing. Wonderful fresh, light bay rum fragrance. I also use Pinaud Bay Rum (which is much "heavier" and smells more of cloves and spice than Bay Rum) and Ogallala. The Superior 70 just may be my new favorite.

This stuff has to rank up there as one of the best "bang for the buck" shaving products out there in my estimation.

Superior 70 is on my "must try" list, but in the meantime I've really come to enjoy Masters Bay Rum for a cheap alternative to the Pinaud. Actually, Masters is what I wear most days.

Anyone tried both and care to compare?

After a bit of hunting, I found one Walgreens locally that had it in stock. I am just trying out some Bay Rums so my experience is not that great but for $1.99 - this is incredible. Nice light, natural Bay. I am very, very happy. I have the glycerine and menthol to add when I am ready. What a deal!

I am so happy to see S 70 getting some attention and "love." Truly one of my favorite things. I have not tried Masters.

I've got a bottle of the regular and the menthol on the way. I find the idea of mentholated bay rum intriguing.

I've been wanting to add some menthol to some BR just to see what it's like.
I'm also thinking about mixing some Pinaud BR with Master BR.

Not cheap like the rest of the Bay Rums mentioned in this thread, but Royall Bay Rhum is lightly mentholated. It has a magnificent scent, much more complex and subtle than my beloved Pinaud Bay Rum.

I also wonder if the availability of these aftershaves at local Walgreen's, CVS, etc. are strictly regional. I have never seen Superior nor Master's at any local drug store. The only Pinaud I've seen is Clubman. Any thoughts on this remarkably important phenomenon?

You can search the Walgreens website to find which stores in your area, if any, carry Superior 70. I found it at one store only, and it was not with the shaving supplies but on the Hispanic items shelf.

$1.99 a bottle. To that inexpensive base I like to add a little glycerin, some Humco Bay Rum, and a little New Spice or Smoke and Pearls from Saint Charles Shave.

I purchased the last 4 11.6 oz. bottles my closest walgreens had...the other half dozen walgreens in my area were already out of stock due to corporate discontinuing this fine bay rum in northern california...walgreens does ,however, sell this size online for $1.99 and beautyofnewyork.com sells the 25 oz. bottle for $4.. nice price...what I like about this bay rum ,besides its low price,is that it does not leave a cheap,or fake chemical smell on your face as it dissipates...sure,st.johns is a great bay rum,but 60 bucks for a tiny bottle ??

Found it in a supermarket, and you guys were right. Fantastic bay rum!! It's a lot like the old Burts Bees bay rum scent, kind of peppery.

The store also had the menthol and what looked like a eucalyptus version too. Hadn't seen mention of the latter around here at all. Not going to try it though, as either the menthol or the eucalyptus in Proraso seriously irritate my face.

How does the scent compare to Master? I have that one and it's supposed to be just bay oil but I detect a bit of clove/cinnamon. Anyone have both and care weigh in?

Which supermarket? That is, what was the name of the supermarket chaim where you found these three>

Where is the store geographically? I would love to try to the menthol and the eucalyptus.

How much did you end up paying?

I keep buying out the stocke at:

Shoppers Food and Pharmacy
6360 Seven Corners Ctr
Falls Church, VA 22044

hoping they will get the idea there is a demand for S 70, but the supply seems utterly random recently. I understand a store in College Park Md, I forget the name, has the regular S 70.

Have never tried Masters. I would be interested in how it and S 70 compare, myself.

Good find re beautyofnewyork.com. I had not come across that on-line source for S 70 in Google searches. (Comes up immediately now, though!)

They have the menthol version of S 70, too, but not the eucalyptus version, from what I can tell. Shipping is $8 plus, although it does not seem to go up much for multiple bottles.

edo-

I have both Master's and S70. To me, Masters has a sweeter, buttery scent to it. I like it--but it's not my favorite bay rum. The S70 has more of a sharp medicinal smell--it's a clean smell and a very good one at that. I highly recommend it. Really-I havn't found a bay rum yet that I don't like...

For the price S70 cannot be beaten...It's a great product.
