super speed 1940s vs later years

I have a super speed from 1964. Is there a noticeable difference between these later models and the 1947-49 models with no date code in terms of shaving performance? Does my RAD have any justification for motivating me to purchase one in addition to my current super speed?

Those are two very different questions!

For the first, I cannot give a credible enough answer, as I am switching razors daily and am only 2 months plus a bit into non-cartridge wet shaving (though I have and have tried several examples of each type you mention).

My best thought on this, is that it is a very personal thing, and your experiences may differ widely from that of others here.

Fortunately, the preceding statement does tend to support my answer to your second question, which is that due to the YMMV factor, you owe it to yourself to give some of these a try! Go ahead, give in to the RAD! :w00t: Worst case scenario, if you buy them right, is that you don't like them or see an advantage, and decide to sell them on again at the same price you paid (so you may lose shipping costs).

Not sure as I only have a '57 and love it. But if it were me, I would buy it. My RAD would make me do it.

If you check in the Wiki you will find an aggressiveness chart that shows the differences in razors over the years.

There were incremental and evolutionary design changes to the SS over the years, including a couple of complete re-designs. The biggest changes to the '64 from the '40s is the flare-tip design handle introduced in '54 and the low profile head introduced in '60.

Your '64 is very different from the '47-'49s, but both of them shave very well.

edit: There's no need to buy a '40s SS, other than to satisfy an acute RAD.

Profile of the head on the '60 types are a little different, so is the fit of the center pole inside the handle. I like the 40's types a little better but maybe it's just preference. The main thing is that you should just go ahead and buy one because: 1. You can and and that makes you powerful. 2. You will not regret it. 3. If you don't, your life will not be complete and people will look at you funny on the street.
