Super Badger VS Silver Tip

Is there much of a difference in terms of quality and softness? I have a few Super Badger brushes and love them.

Also, could someone suggest some good Silver Tip brushes? Price isn't an issue.

Good silvertips? My Saville Row 3824 is great. I also have a Rooney 3/1 in super silvertip. A must have IMO. I don't have a Shavemac in silvertip but apparently they are brilliant, especially the 177.

I just received a super badger Savile Row. I am looking forward to trying it out, but the Savile Row brand was the best reviewed in my research. It also seemed to have the best quality vs price reviews. Good luck with your search.

You will get as many suggestions for good Super or Silvertip brushes as there are members of B&B. I have had great experience with the Rooney 2/1 in Super and their Heritage line, which has a special grade of Super. The Shavemac 177 in Silvertip is also stellar. I suggest that you connect with one of the vendors (Jim at Vintage Blades has done very well by me) and talk with them about what your brush and lather preferences are. They will give you a number of options that could work for you.

Super is supposed to be somewhat scritchy and silver tip is usually very soft.

+1, however there is variability. For example, the grade of Super in the Rooney Heritage has much softer tips than the Super in the 2/1. The Heritage Super was also softer to me than the Silvertip in the Shavemac.

I will defer to the Simpsons, Vulfix and Plisson experts to weigh in on the merits of those brands. If cost is not a consideration and you like Rooneys, I would go for a Heritage.

I own a shavemac 177 silvertip and its truly fantastic! Hasn't shed at all and ive used it for a month! Anyways, if u stick to Shavemac, Kent, Savile Row, edwin Jagger u wont be dissappointed!

I'm with Sodapapjones........

Penworks all the way. Love my silver tip and the price/quality was crazy compared to big names.

The irony is, he has Simpons, Vulfix, Omega, and obviously his own line of brushes and you can molest them all and compare for yourself.

If even after doing so, you still buy anything but a PenWorks/Penchetta you're crazy.

I have the Savile Row Silvertip. Love it. Soft, but it does a great job of making and applying the lather.

I don't have a Penworks brush, but I have three brushes with Penworks Silvertip knots in them, and they are all pretty close to awesome. :thumbup1:

I own a chome handled Parker silver tip. Bought it for $59.88 on Amazon and it is incredible. Dense and soft, just a few hairs shed but well worth the price. They don't offer it anymoore, more's the pity. There's nothing better than silvertip for making even a so-so soap give spectacular shave.
