Summer Reading List

Lately I pic a series to read each summer. Last year it was Harry Bosch from Michael Connolly. The year before it was Lee Child's Jack Reacher Series. The year before that I reread Robert B. Parker's Spenser Series.

This is on tap for this summer:

It is the original James Bond series from Ian Fleming. I read a few of them about 25 years ago. They were not available for my Nook, only the Kindle. Amazon came out with a Trade Paperback series that will look great on a bookshelf and were on sale for $5-$7 a book. I am on the fourth book already. So far I am really enjoying them.

What are other people reading?

Great choice with the Bond stories. The only trouble is that they read really fast. I love series novels too, and in fact have just started the Reacher books, having finished Killing Floor and just cracked Tripwire. A couple years ago when I was about to leave for an extended business trip in Asia, I bought all of Clavell's Asian saga and loved reading the stories (again) as I travelled through the region. Last summer was the Game of Thrones books, all of them in a row before I ever watched a single HBO episode.

Speaking of series...

Two years ago, I did a DVD/Filmography of Agatha Christie. Now that I've watched (nearly) them all... at least three times... it's past time to read the books. Picked up 70 paperbacks off fleabay for $70.

Having never read a western in my life, I recently discovered author Elmer Kelton on someone's recommendation and have been enjoying his books. Currently I'm reading Stephen King's latest book, Playland. I'm not sure where to go next because I'm in the middle of several series. More of Connolly's Harry Bosch? More of Flynn's Mitch Rapp? The next tome of Game Of Thrones?

Hmm... I just watched the Jack Reacher movie Saturday night and rather enjoyed it. I actually have the collection of books on my iPad and have heard they beat the movie hands down, so I may just have to give them a go!

Also, I need to read through the Bond series. Seriously.

I want to read something by Faulkner. I've read The Sound and the Fury; Absalom, Absalom; As I Lay Dying; and Light in August. I haven't read anything by him in nearly 10 years. I think I'll go with "The Reivers."

Something worth checking out: http://www.goodreads.com

There's also an iPhone app that allows you to scan the books you've read. It's basically social networking for literature dorks. I like it.

I'm taking on the books in the Game of Thrones series. Technically "A Song of Ice and Fire" I guess. I'm a slow reader, so it'll likely take me much longer than the summer to finish them :)

Take your time and enjoy it. It's one of those sagas I wish I hadn't read, so I could have the pleasure of starting it all over again.

The first book took me 4+ months to read. I enjoyed it so it's not a reflection on the book. Most of the time I was reading it just before bed and I'd only get about 5 pages read before I fell asleep.

Haha thats me exactly! I can get a chapter or two some nights, and occasionally during the day. But its going to take sometime for sure. But thats cool with me. Like insOma said, I'll take my time and enjoy it. There is alot of info in it to absorb! Only bad thing is, that while I'm reading the book/s, my Audible credits are racking up!
