Sul Filo Del Rasoio (by Proraso) - Aftershave Cream and Razor Burn Repair reviewed

Gentlemen,

for some reason Proraso's Sul Filo Del Rasoio line doesn't get much attention around here. I'd like to change that. :001_cool:

Just like the classic Proraso range, Sul Filo Del Rasoio's offerings are manufactured by the distinguished Italian Ludovico Martelli company. From what I've heard this is Proraso's way of attracting new, young customers. There's a brushless shaving gel, canned foam, a face soap, a daily moisturizer and two aftershave products - a balm against razor burn and a protective aftershave cream. These are all decent products, but both the balm and the aftershave cream really stand out.

According to the friend who sent this from Italy, the Razor Burn Repair balm is supposed to replace an aftershave splash - so it's no surprise there's alcohol involved.

With its anthracite-colored plastic bottle it is definitely one of the more unusual looking members of your shave den. The product itself is a light, white liquid which apparently should be applied before using a 'real' aftershave balm. An almond-sized drop gives you a barely notable alcohol burn, followed by the fresh effect of aloe vera. The scent - which in my opinion bears a fascinating, alcohol-infused resemblance to grapes - is unusual and a tad sharp at first, but soon turns into an interesting, faint aroma of what I would describe as tangy grape seeds. I haven't smelled any aftershave product quite like this. It's not overpowering and shouldn't be strong enough to clash with your cologne, but you'll definitely notice it for a while.

All in all the Razor Burn Repair turns out to be an interesting, more moisturizing alternative for those who want alcohol without the drying effects of a splash.

Ingredients: Aqua, Alcohol Denat., Parfum, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Isononyl Isononanoate, Sodium Acrylate/Acryloyldimethyl Taurate Copolymer, Echium plantagineum, Cardiospermum halicacabum, Helianthus annuus, Aloe barbadensis Gel, Octyldodecanol, Retinyl Palmitate, Tocopheryl Acetate, Isohexadecane, Polysorbate 80, Citronellol, Geraniol, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Methyl Ionone, Citral, Limonene, Linalool, Butylphenyl Methylpropional

Sul Filo Del Rasoio Protective Aftershave Cream

The Protective Aftershave Cream comes in a rather neutral looking plastic tube. With its consistency right between L'Occitane's buttery Cade and the runny Nivea Sensitive balm it feels just right on the skin - definitely a product for every climate.

Now here's a surprise: this may very well be the most protective aftershave balm I've ever used. It's soft and soothing, doesn't burn at all and comes with a scent that's neutral enough for even the most sensitive skin. When applied, the already low-key fragrance resembles a very gently scented Nivea cream; after five minutes there's just a faint trace of (don't laugh) fresh cookies left. Whoever kisses you on the cheek will notice a soft, extremely pleasant cream note throughout the day; your co-workers, however, won't ever smell anything (unless they're the ones kissing you). There's no way this balm will ever clash with your cologne.

In short: this has quickly become my favourite aftershave product. I usually apply a pea-sized drop after using the Proraso splash, enjoying a highly refreshing, very protective AS/ASB combination.

Ingredients: Aqua, Cprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Cyclohexasiloxane, Bis-PEG / PPG /PPG-16/PEG/ PPG-16/ 16 Dimethicone, Vitis vinifera, Parfum, Tocopheryl Acetate, Echium plantagineum, Cardiospermum halicacabum, Helianthus annuss, Retinyl Palmitate, Octyldodecanol, Aloe barbadensis, Acrylates/C10-30 Alkyl Acrylate Cosspolymer, Phenoxyethanol, Methylparaben, Ethylparaben, Proylparaben, Butylparaben, PEG-40 Hydrogenated Castor Oil, Geraniol, Benzyl Salicylate, Alpha-Methyl Ionone, Citral, Limonene, Linalool, Burylphenyl Methylpropional, Imidazolidinyl Urea, Sodium Hydroxide, Tetrasodium EDTA

My advice: give these two outstanding Italian products a try. :001_cool:

I picked up the glycerin face bar while on vacation in Sicily. According to IB, it has been discontinued. Before getting this, I never washed my face before shaving. But I have decided to make it a Proraso summer.

The product itself seems very high quality. I just wet it and rub it in my wet hands and it generates a lot of lather to rub on my face. It cleans my face well without drying it out. I would characterize it as a gentle cleanser, which I like because I am not prone to breakouts.

Once this runs out in the distant future, I will probably pick up the Neutragena face bar. Not to use as a pre-shave, but I like the glycerin bar when I need to wash my face.

IB is offering a glycerin pre-shave type soap. Musgo offers offers the lime glyce.
