Suggest a blade, please

Yes, another newbie "tell me which blade to try" thread! But, I have tried quite a few and would like to know which others have similar characteristics to my favorites so far.

Favorites: Gillette Russian Green Super Stainless & Feather. Both give me smooth shaves, but more weepers than usual.

Very Good:
Russian Yellows. Good, but a bit rough.
Russian Blacks. Very close shave, but rough. I can definitely tell I'm scraping a blade across my skin. No weepers or irritation, though.
Astra SP
Red Personnas
Kai

OK to Good: a bunch! LOL

Awful for me:
Derby
Asco

So, what others should I try?

I find sharks super stainless to be a great everyday blade in my HD. I still prefer feathers, but I know I can get away with sloppy prep and not pay the price when using sharks.

Plus, there's a shark on the package!

I would recommend Gillette Bleue Extras NOS (new old stock ) in the white plastic dispenser rather then the cardboard box version made in russia.

You may also want to check you have the correct angle when you shave. A good tip is that as you lower the cutting angle your elbow should go up. And when you do your prep use your fingers to work the lather into the stubble for a min, then use your brush to even out the lather again.

I would consider testing the Shark Super Chrome and the Bolzano Superinox Inossidabile. Two excellent blades indeed!

Lord Racer blades have yielded spectacular shaves for me in all of my razors. Of course, YMMV!:001_rolle:wink2::lol:Especially since I really likes ASCO blades, as well.

I was very surprised at how good Lord Racers were. I won't say that they are one of the best blades out there, but they are definitely very nice and inexpensive to boot.

In general I don't like blades that aren't platinum (or otherwise) coated, so I tend to stay away from anything labeled "stainless" as it usually indicates that they aren't. Platinum blades are almost always better shavers.

I would suggest trying Gillette Super Thins, 7 O'clock Permasharps (Indian Greens), Rapira Lux.

+1 I love my Sharks.

Personna Red and Medical Preps are also top notch. I think the Reds are a touch shaper and the MP's are a touch smoother. Though I am still working my way threw the first pack of MP's so that opinion is still being formulated.

Perma-Sharp Super for more weepers which is caused by sharpness and Shark. They are good to use for a beginner correctly a learner.

Thanks for all the suggestions! I've placed an order for a pack of most of them.

Does anybody know where I can buy a few Personna Medical Preps? All the places I found to purchase them had minimum quantities of 100 or more.

I would suggest persevering with the feathers as once mastered, I don't believe they can be beaten. The only other blade that comes close for me is the Bolzano Superinox Inossidabile.

Totally agree with Marco on the Shark Chromes. I really need to try those Bolzano blades though. They seem to get a fair amount of love around these boards. :tongue_sm
