I had never thought of that, but you still would be wasting 2 full inches of 3x1 only making them 6" long.
Why not make them 8x1 if cutting that way?

Probably because 1" x 6" is the size that fits the Edge Pro knife sharpener if'n I recall correctly. And a little wasteage is no big deal to the seller if he is making double what he pays on selling the rest of the cuts. With the right lapidary blade it should be easy to get (10) or (11) 1"×6" cuts at ¼" thickness out of a 3" wide hone.

Jende sells the 20k in 1x4” or 1x6”, for $99 or $150 iirc. And yeah, the 1x6 size is meant for hapstone holders, though it’d be nice to have it at 8” long too.
