Stubborn ring around the knot

I did the wiki/em's method (dish soap, then vinegar + gently scrubbing with a toothbrush). It's still got a white ring of scum around the base of the knot. I'm a minimalist and don't have a collection of brushes. This is it. So what's next? Any "shave brush cleaners" like Classic Brand or Gold Dachs work better? (It's a Merkur Futur Silvertip, FWIW.)

Well, I have used a product recommended to me by a major collector of expensive badger brushes. The product is called M-A-C brush cleaner and it helped the ring on one of my old testing brushes that was really affected by mineral buildup on the ring and the hairs themselves.

It is like a shampoo except that you sprinkle some on the brush until it is saturated, then gently rub on the knot and you can use a toothbrush again on the ring. Soak the brush down with distilled water after cleaning and let dry.

This product is also a disinfectant and works well in my experience of releasing the mineral gunk from the hairs. This is a makeup brush cleaner. Makeup brushes can go much higher in terms of costly hairs such as mink and sable with badger being considered a less expensive product in that area of brushes. Now if it can get the gunk that accumulates in a makeup brush, much of it is mineral in composition. No product is perfect, but this is the best one I have tried and it was one of the very best brush tips I have received concerning cleaning.

If you buy the product, go directly to the manufacturer to reduce the overall cost.
